Golden elephant 'four in hand' owned by the Majarajah of Darbhanga. Although some jungle districts did have their official allotment of elephants they were not as much a feature of British India as they were of the native states. One notable exception was Burma where such firms as the Bombay Burmish Trading Company kept 'stables' several hundred strong for work in the teak forests.
