    thats the plait of hair down his back. The soldiers had long hair and by wrapping it with black tape it kept in place.

    Yes, that's what I do with repairing figures.

    Make sure that any old glue is removed, and you have a clean surface for the new glue to adhere to.
    Don't use too much glue that will seep out and...

    Don't think they are repaints because the hat doesn't have the brass plate or the 1st Rgiment. The hat is different.

    Not sure about the poses, maybe if someone can put up images, that could help?...
