    28mm gaine's mill

Excellent painting and composition! If you hadn't told me, I would have guessed the figures were much larger - at least 54mm - based on the way you painted them. The flesh is especially effective. Well done.

    black primer

At the risk of beating the subject to death, let me expand upon what Brad says below. Optics - When you see a color, such as red, you look through the paint and see a relection of the top color off the undercoat. If you want a darker red, a dark under coat will give you a red that is not so...

    Grieve 80mm Figures

Have not seen these great figures in years, except in bargain bins or on the tables of a few speciality dealers. Here's a link from 2009 that might be of interest: http://www.militarymodelling.com/forums/postings.asp?th=22058

    black primer

I'm not a big fan of black primer, but you can certainly mix a little black paint into your present gray primer to get the color you're looking for. I know wargamers that use a rattle-can black from the hardware store, as Brad suggested.

    has anybody painted these figures

Over the years, I've done various kinds of plastic figures. Generally they paint up well. I've used acrylics, enamels and even oils. Preparation is key. Be sure to wash the figures thoroughly in hot soapy water. I let them soak for 1/2 hour to remove all the mold release. Dry them thoroughly...

How to make easy "form fitting" molds...

Interesting response. Thanks. I don't have much experience with metal, but what you say makes perfect sense.

    30mm napoleonics

In the collector world, I think 30mm and sets are still very much sought. In the painting world, most of us are getting older and need the extra real estate of larger scales to make up for our failng eyes!

70th Annual MFCA Show & Mart - my photos

Hi Brad, Kudos to you and all the others who put on yet another fantastic MFCA show this year. I'm sure I speak for all the Hawaiian Shirt Crew when I say we had a fanastic time. I see the "Hospitality Room Stalwarts" continued to uphold their fine tradition this year with some brews...

    30mm napoleonics

Hi Ray, Sorry I've been AWOL on this site for a while. Work and getting ready for MFCA have left me little time for keeping up here. I attended MFCA last weekend and have a report on the show on the BFFS website - from the flat world persective. You can see my latest work there as well...

How to make easy "form fitting" molds...

Great thread and very helpful. I'm a little suprised at how well the metal flows into the extremities without vents. Any tricks to share here?

    Pre War Composite Soldiers

Nice to see some of the older figures on this site. I'm a log-time collector of Elastolin and Lineon composition figures. They're great! The action poses and accessories for these figures were a great inspiration to me at a time when it was hard to get much else in the States besides marching...

    Leaky Figures

Are you priming the figures before you begin painting? If not, a good primer coat ( I prefer white) ought to prevent this. Apply the primer in thin coats until you cannot see any of the underlying color. Let dry thoroughly. If you're still having problems, perhaps its the primer - not opaque...

    30mm napoleonics

I suspected it might be St. Pete because of the painting style. His style looks great for displays, etc.: bright colors, great flesh tones, nice uniform details, and outstanding flags. Whoever it is, keep him!!

    30mm napoleonics

I'm glad you found that book. It's still my bible for painting and general reference. I think you got a great deal!! Thank the flats gods! Who painted these figures - love the animated style.

    King&Country Exclusive Davey Crockett Release

I find the figure a little disappointing. Given the colorful life Davy lead, you'd think they could have found a better pose than playing the fiddle. I'll pass on this one.

    30mm napoleonics

Ray, very nicely done on your latest project. The buildings are perfect for your flats, and each shows the other off very nicely. You've got quite a collection!
