I am sure the band in the first pic is USArmy and I think it’s infantry as well. They are correct for 1880-1890s.
The second band is really interesting and while it’s undoubtedly navy I am not certain which county. I looked at some photos of British Marines in foreign service helmets and have...
Brad beat me too it I was going to say 1880-90 USArmy Cavalry band. I would need to go and look in one of my uniform books but the yellow plumes on the helmets is certainly Cavalry for that period.

Ok on looking at my books they are Cavalry. Great looking set!
No worries from the mods guys I think the precautions are necessary. Proof of vaccinations was required to travel with the Army and for overseas postings so I don’t think it’s a big deal. I have my yellow books as does my family so I can travel.

Ok aside from your legal issues what are we as collectors to understand from your post? You own Chota Sahib and Sarum, are you in production? What does this have to do with Marlborough’s Durbar line which I thought the Palmers owned and since the death of Dave Palmer is in limbo. Or is there...
I love the absolute commitment to the quest! I think many of us fall victim to it with our collections be it toy soldiers or other things. One book I think you need is The Great Book of Britains by Opie. I know you mentioned getting one of his books but I think this one will be the best for...

The cavalry depicted look to be set 99 13th Hussars from 1899. The marching troops could be any set of period marching Guards like set 107 The Irish Guards. If you are considering actually using them in war games I...
I am lucky when it comes to the stores around here, but like you guys I am always hunting for the next gem. The only good thing is my wife knows what have in my library and is fine with it since I don’t have a really huge variety that I am looking for, mainly tank related and obviously India...
Oh those were the days! I still have a couple of brick and mortar stores nearby that offer up gems. But you guys are right about the internet, while it makes it easier to find things it does take the fun of the hunt out of the equation.

George would you please tell Chris I tried to get intouch recently too. I had a number for him but it appears to have been changed. Tell him to drop a line if has time.

That’s was a cool find! I recently found a first edition of With Lawrence in Arabia for an excellent price. It’s always fun when you make a find like this.
