    Greek Hoplites...Carthage?

Many thanks. I also noticed when looking around the armour depicted by 28mm wargame figure makers Armorum & Aquila, and Aventine, and these give a good idea of the variety of mixtures of armour, and what the various mercenaries in Carthages pay wore. Cheers.

The Battle of the Hydaspes 326 BC

A wonderful set up Gary! It is a feast for the eyes and encourages me to collect more ancient figures - far more colourful than field grey ! I am looking forward to seeing the FL elephant one day... I have just finished watching Oliver Stone's Alexander again, a film I have not seen for a few...

    May Dispatches

The variety month on month is quite amazing ! Hopefully more Folgore, 5 isn't quite enough...maybe an officer and more standing attacking figures ?

    Greek Hoplites...Carthage?

I am a bit of a late comer to ancients, as I am a WW2 collector, although I do enjoy reading the history of the battles, and some of my favourite pieces are the FL Imperial Romans, of which I have a (very) few and bought some years ago, as they look very impressive on the shelf. Upon seeing...

    Next For Market Garden?

Yes the Humber is exactly what I have been waiting for, for a long while. Surprised it hasn't been done yet. A dramatic account of the Graebner assault is in Kershaw's excellent book "It never snows in September "

    One Night in Normandy

...and what a great event! Would love to go to that ( sadly a bit far).

    Early K+C

The early DAK sets are nice. I hope they do an update of that walking patrol ( your last picture) one day.

    Hue '68

Great film! Ermey was in the marines for many years, was a drill instructor and served in Vietnam. He made up many of his own lines. " What is your major malfunction ??"

That One Range You Never Quite Give up!

Your patience has paid off. Well done. Sooner or later good items crop up on eBay and you can get a deal, particularly on part sets sometimes, when you didn't want to buy all the set when it was released ( eg when you only like one or two figures out of a set of 4) .

    Dien Bien Phu

Hi Andy, yes I thought you'd know him given his Hong Kong connections and background ! That's a great story, thanks. Yes he mentions the reunion at the end of his great book. What a character, a polar explorer too ! His radio interview on "desert island discs" is well worth listening to for a...

    Dien Bien Phu

In the excellent book by Simon Murray "Legionnaire", in which he has diarised his time with the Legion, albeit from 1960 and covering his time in Algeria, he does mention that one of his sergeants when he did his para training, at Sully, was an ex fallschirmjager, called Krueger, who fought at...

    Dien Bien Phu

There does seem to have been a fair bit of use of German weaponry though, such as MP40's , and Captain Bernard Cabiro of 1st BEP had a Luger as his sidearm, a souvenir from his own wartime days !

    Dien Bien Phu

Indeed, and the majority far too young to have been ww2 veterans anyway.

    Dien Bien Phu

Hi Andy, and many thanks for the reply to the query. Is it ever possible to even make just one figure or two or three, or is that not really commercially or logistically possible ? It seems there could be interest for such "rare beasts" without a full blown 10 or 12 figure range ?

    Dien Bien Phu

...Hell in a very small place... With the interest in the Vietnam range, it would be great to see figures of the French para's made one day. The range of USMC camo clothing mixed with British Denison smocks and camo windproofs would be interesting to see tackled by K & C... and not forgetting...

Yet another well put together scene ! Well done.

Buying Duplicate figures ( or sets) ?

It's a good read , Enrico ! Humorous too, with good observations on the mania of collectors, and the sacrifices some make ! Chatwin used to work for Sotheby's before becoming a writer so would have known the type well .

    New Japanese Charging Flagbearer (JN050)

Good to hear Larry. I already have JN030 ( a truly great figure ) so will have to get this new guy at some point too, along with the officer with pistol and Samurai sword.
