    Lockdown Research

Thanks Mirof, For the 19th, my source was Mitcham's 'Hitler's Legions' but it guess the summary was too short an account to mention it. It is mentioned in Rosado & Bishop's 'Wehrmacht Panzer Divisions 1939-45' however. This even notes that the 19th received 81 Pz IVs, 79 Panthers and eight 3.7...

    Lockdown Research

Mine's a far more modest project but I've been researching that fairly common graphic of the German divisions in France on D-day. It's the one that has little tank symbols for the panzer divisions and white (or clear?) ones for forming or rebuilding units. What got me into this was some recent...

Plastic Platoon's Defense of Leningrad 1941

Further to my last.... As I have suddenly got a lot of 'home time', I've been researching the German divisions in France on D-day. The 17th GAF fought in and was destroyed at Paris. Its survivors went to the 167th Infantry Div. The 16th GAF was based in Holland initially but went to Normandy...

    K&C's Mounted Knights & Saracens...........

I hadn't realised there were so many! I had to make do with my favourite four, in a display of about 20. It was the start of this series that got me into collecting!

Plastic Platoon's Defense of Leningrad 1941

Those poses are fantastic! It's slightly ironic to see the 7th Luftwaffe shown as so aggressive, when almost without exception the Luftwaffe Field divisions were smashed in their first actions.

    Oliver Japanese to Airfix/Marx?

Thanks for that - just what I needed to know. I'll get the CTS Japanese with my next order. Cheaper too, than getting the Oliver ones from ATS and paying another clip to the US post office.

    Toy soldier games

Hi Brett! Just to clarify - you couldn't see the photo? I thought I'd taught myself to put them on - I may need to do some PD?

    Oliver Japanese to Airfix/Marx?

Actually, as I'm about to do an order through CTS I just wondered how their set works too?

    Toy soldier games

So, we're both on school holidays (I'm a teacher) and isolated (confined) to home. The games have begun! Here you can see my Airfix, Mars and Matchbox Germans being surrounded and crushed by British (Airfix: Infantry (Green & Brown), Commandos, Paras and Support Set and Matchbox 8th Army) and...

    Oliver Japanese to Airfix/Marx?

Hi, in lockdown at home with my 9yo son - who happily wants to play toy soldiers with me! Now we've done a lot of Normandy type battles but he's asked about Kokoda so he can use my Airfix Australians (makes a lotta sense as we are Australians). I have the Marx and Airfix ones and I was...

Great run of war movies recently!

I saw Midway the other day and thought it was a solid effort, with particularly good special effects/CGI. Being in the back seat of a dive bomber would've been terrible. Or in any seat of a torpedo bomber... Anyway, while it was a good watch on the big screen, it struck me how many impressive...

    The Real West

I've loved this range. My reading also suggests that the Sioux tribe (from the East??) that 'rebelled' during the Civil War fought in urban style places. I think they destroyed a town comprised of Swedish settlers? The Cheyennes also raided places that might be called towns.

1917: Inspired by His Grandfather’s War Stories

Saw it today and it is stunning. As has been said, it's filmed in real time with the main characters pretty much always in the frame. It really helps to build suspense and engagement. Apart from this achievement the sets are stunning! There is so much to see of trenches and aspects of battle...

    Star Wars finale

I've seen The Rise of Skywalker twice now and enjoyed it. It had some of the great elements of the first film and for me, ticked most of the boxes. I've been very surprised at the negative reviews?

    BMC in the news

These figures are not for me but it's great news that an unusual range can be produced in this way. Does anyone know what it costs to produce a mold for eight figures these days?

An early look at Expeditionary Force plans for the 18th Century

I have ALWAYS wanted Jacobites! One of the pluses of this plan, is that you can have one range of British and they work against several interesting enemies.

    conte dead again?

It seems the molds have been made for the plastic Romans and they're just tinkering with a few things. He's put a lot into these through the year so I really hope they make it into production - I'll get heaps if they do! Again, I've also seen some of the prototypes that then seem to disappear...

    White Island Eruption in NZ

This really makes me shudder. Most of the victims were Australians, some were teenage children. It's exactly the sort of thing I'd have thought interesting enough to do myself.
