    Airfix horses??

Thanks guys. Those are very good horses. I only got my Airfix riders as recasts and the horses were not included. As a child I seemed to have had only Timpo or HK copies of Timpo horses.

    AWI on the horizon?

'Have a look here: https://ats-toy-soldiers.myshopify.c...s-toy-soldiers' Thanks for that link! I used to look at ATS a lot. They have a fantastic range of the old Spanish TS makers. It was good to look over them all again.

    War memoir reviews

Millville’s Mac by McNamara Mac is born and raised in Milville. It is rural and there are lots of adventures (and misadventures) to be had as a youth. He hunts and fishes and does the many chores that were required around the family property. He idolised his grandfather who taught him much...

    Bloody Tarawa

I had a look at the Marines today and I like them. I've been really impressed by the Japanese that have been coming out over the last year too. I've been mixing them in with my TG Japanese (as they attack my TG Australians) and it gives a great mix of greens and browns (with a smattering of reds...

    Current affairs - North Korea

It looks like NK has about 70 submarines but they're mostly small and for raid launching. Some might be able to hunt surface ships but I don't think they have much range - though surely enough to harrass the Japanese and any reinforcements coming from the US, Australia, Europe etc. It sounded...

    Game of Thrones series 7

The end of Littlefinger was great! And quite the surprise too. I have to say his story was a bit of a mess though. So he started the war by misrepresenting/lying about things but to what ultimate purpose? Revenge against Ned - sure. But the whole business with Sansa just made no sense? Why did...

    Helmet vs grenade?

"The closest I saw that adequately simulated a grenade going off was when Tom Hanks and Matt Damon were priming the fuses of the mortar rounds towards the end of SPR and chucking them at the Germans. That is the closest I have seen." That reminds me of another story of the war with Japan. An...

    Helmet vs grenade?

It sounds like modern grenades and well, most grenades, are far too powerful. The one the Japanese used in WW2 was apparently less so. A marine called Jack Lucas threw himself on TWO and somehow survived. We were shown to dive to the ground and to try and get either your boots or helmet facing...

    Current affairs - North Korea

Well this has got more serious since NK shot a missile OVER Japan. What other country would put up with that? I've heard/read that Kim is actually very rational - having the capacity to hit the US with nukes, would give him the sort of 'security' that has largely kept the US and Russia from...

    Helmet vs grenade?

I was reading one of those accounts of a soldier who threw himself on a grenade to save his comrades the other day. He was killed and was awarded the MOH for his heroism. Now, obviously you don't have much time in these situations but I was wondering - if you were able to get your helmet on the...

    new movie DUNKIRK

There's so much in The Longest Day! The scene that sticks in my mind is of the two patrols of Germans and Americans that pass each other on opposite sides of a fence, all looking skyward at the drama up there - to the point of not seeing each other! I gather it is based on an actual occurence.

    new movie DUNKIRK

I see that the film has made $360 odd million dollars, so with production of $100 million and even with a fair bit in promotions, it has definately made money. It's great to see some clear successes with WW2 films. I see Pegasus Bridge is supposed to finish flming at the end of this year, so...

    Game of Thrones series 7

Episode 5 - spoilers! Yes the Dragon battle was awesome! I see now that Jaimie knows his force has no chance. Some people, even Cersi, are shifting positions. I wonder whether Bron will last much longer since he helped Jaimie 'betray' her. Quite a few 2nd and third rank characters have been...

    new movie DUNKIRK

I saw it this week and I thought it was astonishing! I seemed to have my stomach and fists clenched for a good half of the film. The music reminded me of the signature piece from Jaws. Some scenes were brilliantly claustrophobic - it was really quite stressful, which is an achievement for any...
