After a search for many years, I was able to pick up one of the old 88s. They used to sell for big money but the price has drastically dropped in the last year or so, good for buyers but no so good for selllers.

All in all, K & C has made five 88s, including this one: a resin version, a winter version of this one, the classic WS 57 and the mounted Flak Gun. Andy has previously indicated that he isn’t going to make any more 88s (primarily due to cost I believe). Perhaps he will change his mind in the near future.

Awesome piece Brad and good photo.

What year was this produced?

What was year and K&C number of Winter version.?

Are the shells on base removable or molded in? Thanks, Andy

Thanks Andy. It came out around 2000. The shells are not removeable from the base but the 88 is.

The winter one, WS 24, was a repaint of the summer one. 100 were made of the winter version, based on an email Andy sent me in January 2006.

Here is a photo of the winter one from a 2000 brochure.

In addition, the numbers for the early winter Germans are as follows:

Tiger 100
Stug 100
Hanomag 100
Kubelwagen 100
Figure sets 300-400

No information on the Panther but since around 300 to 400 of the summer Panthers were made, I’d guess about 200 for the winter Panther.

As a very young person, I read _Desert Fury_ by Gordon Landsborough, and was so impressed by the German 88s.

Your photos capture the image of my memory.

Thank you so much for posting and congratulations on your acquisition.

Thank you Ivan. Very nice of you to say that and happy it brought back a few memories.

Brad,
nice pick up. I have the Winter one as the early K&C I kept. I have always liked this set very much and it will always have a place in my collection.

Good find Brad. It is truly a great early K&C piece and still displays well on its own. The winter one is still my favorite K&C piece in my whole collection.

Brad,

Thanks for sharing.

As much as I hope Andy will do at least a desert 88 the chances aren't good.

Makes the original versions ones well worth while getting

Great pick up

WS 57 and crew options would rate as my favourite artillery pieces

Mark
