Just received the camels for the Afrika korps. They are some of the best sculpts I have ever seen. K&C is the best.

I don't have the camels but the Afrika Korps range is my favourite of them all.

The AK Range is what really pulled me into the WWII quicksand I am now in !! :eek: This is really a great range and I have always been interested in the Desert War with Monty, Patton and Rommel.

Camels are Great and really do make my diorama scene with my Afrika Korps. I have even been able to use the lone camel in AK34 in my Napoleon in Eygpt Campaign diorama - so they can be used in other periods too !!

I love those Camels - Very Cool. :cool:

They are indeed cool. I wasn't going to collect Afrika Korps at first, but I started with the small armored car and each piece gets better than the last.:D

I feel like I am kind of in the same position as you Ron- I placed an order for the EA21- just love that dude- and the AK Stug- to go with my Rommel figure- I am afraid that this may suck me deeper into another morass of collecting chaos- I have often heard that a big military blunder is to fight a two front war- how much of a collectors blunder is it to try and collect 8-10 lines (fronts)!! :eek::eek:

You are SO right. I've tried to maintain some sense of 'discipline' in my collecting, sticking to WWII WTO era items-and then came the 'Crusaders and Saracens' line and I ended up feasting on them like Rosie O'Donnell going thru a buffet line. And now, here comes the LRDG collection with that StuG and I'm suddenly collecting desert troops and armor.

So many toys, so little money...

Ha!! Love it!!

Rock on there Pike's Peak!!

Funny thing but I keep seeing the Saracens and Crusaders and just repeat in my head "I'm not into the Crusdaes, I am not into the Crusades" so far it's worked but at some point in time, I'll cave

:rolleyes:I tried that. " I will not collect Napoleonic. It's too diverse, and way too complex. Too many manufacturers etc..."
And! Oh Lordy what a mess I got going now..
Never say never..

Thx ! AND...a great view of the Air Force Academy across the valley.

Trust me, I don't regret the choice to add the 'Crusaders' line (incredible detail) and I am looking very forward to the new releases but adding more lines really does put me in a 'bind' at times, especially with the LRDG vehicles AND new Crusaders coming out shortly (not to mention the FJ's)...

AK is also my theme of choice. I am trying to stay focused on AK and BBG but I am afraid its a losing battle. There is always something else that is available and tempting to begin another range.

Looking back at 2007- I started 2 new lines- AWI and Egypt. Well, I guess AK and EA as well since I am buying those two figs this month as well- but those were more "dabbling" than anything else. Well, wait a minute- Fall of Berlin and Iwo too- I didn't have any of those lines until Pierre hooked me up with the Chi Ha and I got the King Tiger back in January and some of the Soviet stuff.

So, with 2007 3/4 of the way down the drain, I have started 4 new KC lines- AE, AWI, FOB and IWO and am planning on scooping up some of the Imperial CHinese- though probably not till 2008.

I know if they (or perhaps HB) decides to do a Crusdaer, that will be the proverbial straw that broke the camels back.

Guys - I remember telling Tim Tyler back in 2001 "I only collect ACW, Roman and AWI - I am not interested in those Napoleonics........Well we all knew what happen later :eek: NAPOLEON :eek: - Got the best of me and I was sucked in way-deep. Always - Loved Napoleon - but, like OC, I didnt want to tackle all those uniforms - but, now :rolleyes:

Then I joined this forum and Rob, Beaufighter and the rest of you evil WWII fanatics got me looking at AK, WS and DD Ranges......ugh :rolleyes: - my wallet and bank account suffered more...........

Then Andy came out with the Crusaders, FoB and WWI - my goodness :eek: I am at a total freefall nowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

And all thats just King and Country - dont get me started on how John Jenkins has ruin me too ! ;)

Oh - Almost forgot - you WWII guys got me into BBA and BBG - plus Winter Germans, Hummel, Flakpanzer, etc.......someone shoot me !!

It's like Mike Rosso of Stockade told me ten years ago when I first got back into this- I was looking at his collection and was just bewildered "Chris, just grab what you can afford. Before you know it, the crap will be all over the place." Well, he was right and I have pretty much moved his store into my house :))

I actually like all the lines- it has left me less money to spend on diorama material but I am finding that it is easier to find recently retired pieces because overall, the pool of figures is just bigger. I also like it because I can enjoy collecting a broader range of stuff- It keeps things fresh and exciting.

Speaking of AK figures again though- I do really like that 10.5 cm gun- I will probably snatch that up at some point as well.

Also for 2007- it will see me finish my first "line"- the SF figures- Can't believe I couldn't finish the Yanks first but the SF figs will be it.

Every one of you guys reflect my own experience since I got into this hobby 3 years ago.
I began with SOHK/IC, and WW2 – Strictly FoB and BotB only, although I did start getting other German troops with the intention of converting them to fit in with BotB

I then decided to get an RO23 Roman Standing with Spear as a one off, just to see what it was like. Then K&C released AE29 the Gift Givers, and I just knew I had to have a small Ancient Egyptian display – a range I had no interest in up until that point. I only need 1 each of AE13 the Temple Façade, 3 each AE09 the Standing Guardsman, 1 each AE28 the Nubian Slave Guard to complete my AE display. (He says, resolutely)

I then decided to get NA83 through NA90 for a Scots Grey display. The rest as they say is history.

When the Crusader range was released, I got one or two of the ones that appealed to me most…..now I’m hooked.

Now with the recent new releases, I’ve had to take a step back and re-assess how I want our collection to evolve and have tried to put together short, medium and long term plans.

So, after many, MANY revisions, considering what’s older and what’s newer, the short term plan for Oct/Nov 2007 is;

1)
Finish off the AE display

2)
The following sets will be obtained for Missus Heid (finally weaned her off LAH thank goodness);
WS104(SL) the Heydrich set
WS102 the Normandy Kubelwagen
FOB20 the Early War Kubelwagen & FOB21 the Wehrmach Officer w/Bino’s
WS091 the Gestapo Arrest set along with (possibly) 1 each WS93 the Standing Saluting German Officer and 3 each WS94 Standing German Guard.

3)
For myself;
WS34 Rommel
WS 85 & 86 Winter Warriors
AK38 StugIII
AK30 Panzer II

4)
Whatever SOHK sets strike my fancy while I’m in the K&C Hong Kong shop purchasing the above.

Medium term Jan/Feb 2008 is;
LRDG/SAS (most but not all)
More Crusaders
WS46 Traffic Control
AK35 Motorcycle Combo
Possibly a few Naps (Black Watch)
Whatever SOHK sets strike my fancy while I’m in the K&C Hong Kong shop purchasing the above.

Above is in addition to HK107 the Lady Painting, the new Christmas set and the Crimean War Set 2 which I've already reserved with K&C UK.

Long Term for April 2008 to end of 2008 is;
FoB StugIII
WS89 Dispatch Rider
FJ’s
Arnhem
More Crusaders and start on the Saracens
Finish purchasing the LRDG/SAS sets
DAK Infantry sets
Definitely more Naps
Whatever SOHK sets strike my fancy while I’m in the K&C Hong Kong shop purchasing the above.

That represents quite a shopping list and doesn’t take into account any pleasant surprises that K&C will spring on me – so the long term list has to be flexible.
This is why as I mentioned in a different thread, in the short to medium term I would welcome a slight ease up on new releases simply so’s I have a chance to catch up.

Its also why I’m trying my best to resist dipping my toes into WW1 or ACW – cos I just know what’ll happen if I do……Aaaaaaaiiiiieeeeee - I sold my soul 3 years ago.....I'm almost glad that I can't get my hands on NMA or HB stuff (at the moment - working on it).:D:D:eek::eek::)

Of course Harry- that is assuming the KC team doesn't decide to release a Bannockburn 1314 line in June of 2008- then you might as well trash that plan :D Funny thing about how we all have these acquisition plans- its like a battle plan- the first one always falls apart so you better have a Plan B and C- Right now, that darn Ken over at EoI has been killing me with those wonderful Ancients of his.

My plan- I hone in on whatever is retired each month in the dispatches- if its nothing I need, then I buy something else- KC, EoI or dio material.

But getting back to the AK Figs- I think one of the most creative things someone could do with this range would be to make an "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" diorama with these figs- of course, you gotta find something that could work for Indy and Marion- and that super buff German airplane mechanic, but I think that would be a lot of fun

I better get out of this hobby........

No- you of all people need to stay in this hobby- you are the new standard bearer for us!!! In 30-40 years, if you stay with it, we will all be croaked off and you will be sitting on the top of the Toy Soldier mountain with a collection half a century old!!

This thread is really an example of my collecting life.

When the Empress Dragoons were retires I said,"I am only going to get the bugler and the officer" No I have the whole friken' regiment plus several Black watch!

I myself remember telling Tim Tyler that I only collected Britains and Conte ACW.
The next thing I know it I'm in the backyard after school working my *** off everyday for several hours trying to earn to cash buy a figurine:mad:

I need some support rom my fellow collectors to keep me from buying The French Cuirassiers and most importantly-Abstaning from WW2

DONT DO WWII--Everybody does!!!!
STAY ON THE SIDE OF LIGHT!!!:D

And as for the financial situation--don't sweat it. I am completely broke and won't be able to buy another soldier for a very long time, but I can handle it...I think....I hope....AWWW, who am I kidding! I can't take it!!! :mad::(
