Is there any news about any changes in cost for JJD in the near future? Thanks for responses,
Pat Sr & Jr

For the record, Dealers cannot just increase prices, those are set by the Manufacturers.
Same reason those of us who adhere to the rules do not discount unless those sale prices are approved by the Manufacturers.

Julie
This the part that makes me laugh; friends/relatives of mine who know next to nothing about how this business works keep telling me "What's the big deal, just raise your prices to cover the tariff"...............no can do, as Julie said, the manufacturers set the prices not us. This ain't Walmart or Target or Home Depot, all of whom will just raise their prices.

We cannot, period. Thankfully, the manufacturers have had an open dialog with us and are all working on solutions to the tariffs, it's going to take a bit of time to sort it all out, their ball, their rules, but again, they are working with us, which is all we as dealers can ask.

Isn't the price set by the manufacturer the international price?

Then to local taxes and duties have to be added.

For example, here in Australia there is a 10% GST (goods and Sales Tax) added, similar to UK with their VAT and so on.

The US dealers can also advertise as same the international price and the + US Tariff.

Easy ???

John

There are several moving parts regarding tariffs; they started at 10%, then a month later went to 20%, so what do we do as dealers/retailers, raise the price after every tariff increase..............the ones to Canada and Mexico have been put on pause twice, so what do we do, suspend price increases?

What if they go away and we raise prices; do we then lower prices, or keep them raised to make up for all the money we laid out in tariffs?

Again; we're having ongoing discussions with several manufacturers, so we'll just have to see how things go.

As a customer, I have to pay the manufactures declared price which is in $US.

My Aussie dealer then charges me that cost, which varies each time due to the fluctuating exchange rate of the $AUS against the 'Greenback' then he adds our 10% GST (Federal Tax).
The price varies all the time.

The consumer will then decide on how much he is prepared to pay, and that is the market.

John

... And the answer is YES to a price increase. A nice size bump from March to April's new release prices. - Thanks a heap Donald

IMO, Any tariff costs will be past on to the US dealers until they can't take it anymore. Kiss free shipping costs good bye eventually. They're will be yet more dealer consolidation ( e.g. fewer dealers).

More direct orders from overseas manufacturers and maybe some dealers).

Oops, that means the collector pays the tariffs directly instead of the US dealers. Hence, it will be become a de-facto VAT tax that our European collectors hate.

Maybe, the manufactures can offer rebates to the the US dealers to offset some 9f the burden.

Otherwise, the price to US collector will jump and more US collectors leave the hobby and/ or start to buy past toy soldier releases from secondary sources (e.g. ebay) to fill out their collections. Similarly to what has happened in the auto industry, where used cars have become more popular.

Eventually, China and US will come to agreement with "carve outs". However, the toy soldiers will be last on that priority list.

In the US our hobby has likely been changed maybe forever.

I hope I'm wrong.

It is already happening. There is a 5.00 to $6.00 increase from last month's JJD releases to this month on comparable figures. - It's easy to see, look for yourself.

You can see the increase in JJD’s ACW / Brandy Station range. Previous upcoming mounted figures are $108, new upcoming release mounted figures are $114. I am curious / fearful of what the cost impact will be on more expensive items (airplanes, tanks).

HOW CAN IT BE THAT MUCH PER FIGURE WHEN THE TAX IS ON THE WHOLESALE PRICE. I WOULD NOT ALL $2-3 SIZABLE. IN SAYING THAT I THINK TOY SOLDIERS ARE REALLY OVERPRICED
AND I HAVE BEEN BUYING THEM SINCE 1993. IT LOOKS LIKE SOME MANUFACTURES DECIDED THE ROUTE OF LOW PRODUCT PRODUCED BUT SOLD FOR A HIGHER PRICE WHICH PROBABLY NETS THEM MORE IN THE LONG RUN

Will be interesting to see if they do go down if/when the tariffs are removed? As have noticed in the past couple of years prices seem to have stablised and John's figures are prices consistantly, but this just might be me and what i collect.
You have to remember that any restocks for dealers will go up as well.
Will also be interesting to see if the figures go up in price in other parts of the world, UK, Continental Europe, Australia? They should not as it is the US dealers who will need to increase the prices as they will pay the tariff, as the manufacturer will charge the same price [or possibly less to help out the dealers, with their increased costs]. I know the prices are determined by the manufacturer and dealers are not looked upon well if they discount [think Julie mentioned that she, rightly, sticks to the rules on pricing from manufacturers].

Without you guys in the US there is NO Toy Soldier Market, you are the biggest customer [know generalisation, but they can be true], but largest market and if uneconomical to make and supply the US then we could see a slimming down of the manufacturers and choice.

Heres to hoping we have hit a small bump in the road and not a bl**dy great hill, as i think quite a few of us do not the gas/petrol to carry on down that road.

One not small glimmer but a bright light [for me] are the new Jacobites, they look excellent.

One way to check price increases through tarriffs is to look at the prices direct from HK and the prices from dealers in the US.

I have already ordered a 3 set of each Jacobite release, i am hoping to get up to the Battlefield this year, it is a full days drive from where i live to Inverness, actually further than if i was to drive to the Ardennes. Wll take a few figures with me, seem an opportunity not to miss to display them there and take a few pictures.
