Hello Good People!
Ken and I were talking about the toy soldier hobby as a whole and were wondering what was your single best hobby related acquisition of 2008? It can be a figure, vehicle, building, scenic item, display case, book, event, anything hobby related. You get the idea. What one item has brought you the most joy this year?

My favourite set is this years W.Britain Christmas set (Yes, I am biased! :D)with the napoleonic era woman teasing the Guard with mistletoe. I love the clothing from that era. I love the taunting. It just makes me smile.

So guys and gals, what was your best, most joyfully spent dollar/pound etc. this year?

Happy Holidays to All!
All the Best for 2009!

Happy Holidays to you & Ken.

Currently for me it has to be the 9th Lancers mounted band. I got it for a song. It is a beautiful set all nice and glossy and looks great set up rows.

Now ask me that question in a few days time and it may be different, I am thinking Zulus may well appear on this thread. :D :D :D

For me, the King & Country Christmas set, which completes the telling of the Battle of Bulge Christmas story started way back in 1999 with YA01 (Christmas Dinner) and continued a couple of years ago with the Santa Jeep. Seeing the G.I.'s freezing in the midst of that hellish battle share what little they have to give the local Kids (and dogs) a Christmas really exemplifies what both Christmas and the greatest generation were all about.:cool:

For me it is Litte Legion's, Rorke's Drift Chapel Set.

I have afew honorable mentions, but the post only calls for the best.

You have that already........and here you were trying to get me to ship you mine  That would be like me saying I accidently stood on a Trophy RHA set HAHAHAHA

Yuu are starting to sound "spousey":rolleyes::) Just send it ok! I need a storehouse to convert and your is perfect for my diabolical plan!
Mike

For me it would the warbirds and Doris Kearns Goodwin, because this book has started me back to exploring American history in the mid 19th century. It's been a real delight so far. I'll probably be receiving 5 or 6 books related to the Civil War for Christmas!

I can't pick just one but it would have to be the Snowshoes range by Jenkins.
Mark

Picking up two more K&C Chasseurs before Andy sent them riding off into the sunset:eek:! Now the Emperor's escort is complete:).

Tough choices but I would say it would have to be these

and these

But for a few weeks it would have been these:D

There were many moments :D but my winner would be getting all the figarti V1 sets and putting them together..a case of the whole being more than the sum of the parts:cool:

This is really difficult because I spent so much, and began my metal collecting:(, I mean there are:

Conte Co. plastic Spartans
Conte Co. Platoon-Real attachment here as my father was a member of the 325th Airborne Infantry, and my screen name is based off one of the figures.
Conte Co. GI metal sets, never get tired of my bazooka and .30 cal team.
ONWTC In Defense of the Hedge, I really like the figures of the officer with the MP40, and the one with the MG42
Conte Co. BOSS sets, love the poses in those sets
Conte Co. Caught in the Crossfire, like the German shouting

But to some it up, I will go with two figures, Conte's platoon figure holding the Lewis Machine gun or as I call him Lewey Gun Vick, and ONWTC In Defense of the Hedge, the officer on his knees holding the MP40, love that face it is so startled!

Merry Christmas, and pretty sure what my Christmas presents are,

Vick:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Yo Troopers, sorry you will have to fight it out for second place:( lol. This is perfection personified. Any day now I am expecting to see a load of horse dung in the cabinet and the Sergeant to dismount its that lifelike. But then its from the master himself. I am just gobsmacked that anyone can get such minute detail with a paintbrush. Coming second to this is not all that bad guys:rolleyes:.
Bernard.

Bernard,
Isn't the plume broken or fixed? That puts you at the back of the line!
Merry Christmas!

The 1st King’s Dragoon Guards by Trophy.

These were some of the first Trophy Zulu War range figures I had bought for over 10 years.

After finding this great Forum the Trophy Zulu War collecting bug bit very deep again. I have been very lucky in finding many of the sets I missed when I stopped collecting Trophy all those years ago.

Now if anyone can put me in the direction of the “ABANDON THE HOSPITAL” boxed set :D;):D

Cheers

Martyn:)

Bernard, that is a beautiful figure but ummm I am afraid you are simply wrong on the second place observation. You see the question was
...what was your single best hobby related acquisition of 2008? ...What one item has brought you the most joy this year?
.....
So guys and gals, what was your best, most joyfully spent dollar/pound etc. this year?
...Ericka
So while this fellow and his fine stead are your first place, whatever we each chose has the same distinction for the rest of us.;):D Sometimes it is helpful to read the question.:D:D So what was your second place?

For me it would be the Set of Backlot Buildings I picked up. Little information

was available, the only photos I had were a few shots of items in Louis's

collection and the images from the brochure. The negotiations, were fun as

we traded messages and I posted numbers on photos I sent to determine

which actual pieces were involved. When the deal was done, after a short

wait my new treasures arrived expertly packed and in beautiful condition!

I enjoy them every time I walk into my Den!
