2 months ago, I was referred by MikeBreen to contact another person Steve email steveerxleben283@gmail.com for Figarti sets I was looking for, I paid his friend about 7 weeks ago 13th August
, does not respond to emails, then his email stopped working , then another email used.

Asked to pay as family friends I trusted him as referred to him by someone on this forum, stated posted 6 weeks ago, and after a number of emails asking tracking, no responses and as above his email stopped working.

Beware being referred and paying as family and friends unless you personally know the seller as you cannot make a claim on pay pal.

Beware and a shame this sort of thing happens

Trevor

Had the same thing years ago mate except he was a member, and the funny thing is he probably went to the Chicago show this weekend ppl on here know him agree family and friends should be exactly that.

I'm thinking that buying or selling on the forum would best be trusted by those who actually post on the forum regularly.
On buying, I think I would be more inclined to only buy from those who have a regular presence on the forum and not from some random, who has only just joined and never posted on any of the forum subjects and am contacted by if I put something on the Wants thread.
On selling and as a private seller as opposed to a dealer, I would be less inclined to sell abroad, because of the extra details, such as finding the right postage perhaps easy if you have a set of scales at home, not so if you have to take a package to a Post Office first to find out how much it is, only to then have the buyer then decline due to postage costs.
Then of course there is the filling in of customs forms and checking if anything you're wanting to send is forbidden, such as I've read on this forum of things like scenery items being posted to Australia and being seized by customs and destroyed as not allowed. Oh yes I agree with them trying to protect themselves from invasive species etc, just saying if you're sending something abroad you need to check or be prepared to be out of pocket.
As a private buyer are you willing to suck up the loss if such a thing happened, or would you expect the seller to suck it up ?

So anyway, I'd like to hear other peoples takes on the subject !?

Somebody just tried the same thing on me. A new member with no posts referred me to a friend who supposedly had two sets I wanted. When I contacted the friend and insisted he send me photos of the rare sets so I could judge the condition before agreeing to purchase, he ghosted me.

I had someone pay for 2 delprado figures with a 25 dollar bootleg counterfeit money order....
I lived in the USA I would have driven over to the address the stuff was delivered to, but I misplaced that info.
awful

As the old saying goes, if it sounds odd, call it out, post it out here and get others to weigh in.

On another note, last December, had a buyer in VA who had been to the shows many times pass me a $1000 check - bad. Tried to work with him to make it right. He did not. Luckily VA is a felony state for bad checks over $500. I had enough, pressed criminal charges (along with 2 other dealers). Happy to say , the law works. The DA offered the guy a choice - make restitution or be convicted of a felony. (I received my money plus all fees in a cashier's check). Took 9 months and pain, but it worked. Again, glad it was in VA where the law in that case still had teeth. IF in MD - I would have ended up with all fees and a lien, which is not worth the paper it is printed on until they sell an asset (usually real estate).

IN my 46 of 50 year life (knock on wood), this is the only significant bad transaction I have ever had!
