Does anyone have any details on the makeup of Dragoon or Dragoon Guards regiments’ pre-war “musical ride” formations?
Britain’s armed the Queen’s Bays and the 7[SUP]th[/SUP] Dragoon Gds with lances, and here is a photo of some Inniskilling Dragoons that I painted up from damaged old pieces. It would be fun to put together a display of different regiments’ “musical ride” formations like the one that Britains did of the Household Cavalry. Does anyone know details about the actual make up of such formations at the tattoos held between the wars?
Here is a painting by Gilbert Holiday of the Queen’s Bays titled “Olympia 1932.” To try and find some information I spent a (very pleasant) hour looking at old Pathe videos which eventually turned up the gem that I included a link to at the bottom. In the video, you can clearly see heavy cavalry with lances, but there are no clues as to what makes up each unit’s detachment.
Does anyone know if these formations included kettledrums and bugles like the HH Cavalry? Can anyone recommend a source for more information on the old pre-war tattoos?
Thanks!
