I just watched the movie 'Joyeux Noël' ('Merry Christmas' in english). The action is based in France, in the trenches, and the three regiments facing are fraternizing as it is the Christmas Eve. It is based on true events.

It's a real good movie, I highly recommand it. As good as 'Un long dimanche de fiancailles' ('A very long engagement').

That sounds quite interesting.

By the way I am awaiting the general DvD release of "Indigenes" here in Ireland. It was not available on general release, and only a small number of cinematic clubs carried it. The story is of the French Arab forces (many from the former Vichy l'Armée d'Afrique rather than de Gaulle's Free French) who proceed to fight through Italy and France in the liberation of Europe but who are ignored by history when their own countries' anti-colonial wars leave these proud WWII veterans branded as pro-French collaborators by the Moroccan and Algreian independence movements.

Interestingly there was some limited anglophone coverage:

Keep an eye out for it on DvD.

In English or French?

If you are asking about 'Joyeux Noël', what I found really great is that the soldiers are talking their own language. We listened in french (if I can say) and the Scottish were speaking english and the German, german and they were subtitled in french.

I really loved that movie.

As for 'Indigènes', the movie hitted the theaters in France 09/27/2006. I watched the trailer (http://www.tadrart.com/tessalit/indigenes/bandeannonce.html) and I can't wait to see it. Looked very impressive.
