In the chaos of retreating from the Blitzkrieg attack on Belgium, a lone 25 Pounder gun and crew left behind by the rest of the battery for them to catch up when they'd fixed their tractors engine problem, loads their last round of H.E. defending a bridge that has come under attack with only a Section of Infantry defending it.

Hi Steve,
What a great little scene!
I love 'rear guard' dioramas...It has to be one of the most difficult military operations to take part in...

Covering the withdrawal of your mates as they pull back while you must remain to hold off the enemy...Very well done and great to see those 'FoB' figures together with the 25 Pounder in action.

Merry Christmas when it comes!
Andy.

Great diorama Steve. May 1940 is also on my list of "To do dioramas" in 2018.
It will however highlight another aspect of this campaign
guy:)

Good to see the GUNNERS in action, providing fire support to withdrawing troops ...

Well Done ...

Very well done. Reminds me of the scene from the 1950s movie Dunkirk. Think it was with John Mills. Chris

You can almost hear the Number 1 yelling "FIRE MISSION OPEN ACTION" or "TANK ALERT"!

Thanks Chris and a Great film that is too, which inspires me a bit to add a few more photo posts to the thread following a similar vein !

So, Part 2 !

The Gunners hitching up the 25 Pounder and taking the Sections wounded with them depart the scene, the few remaining Infantry men fight on until they run out of ammunition for the Vickers and the arrival of an armoured car on the opposite bank.

Knowing it best to cross country than stick to the main road filled with a mass of refugees the Section make for the woods follow an old road track until they come to an abandoned Village Schoolhouse approaching it they see all the signs of having been strafed. Fortunately the building is empty and the only casualty is the outhouse !

They push on, making for the coast.

To be continued after Christmas !

Steve
