N.F.L. 21-22 Season (1 Viewer)

Watching the game...it looks like the 49ers have not played a team like Philly this year...games not over yet...but it looks bleak for San Francisco...tough to win with your 4th string QB against a really complete team like Philly...San Francisco's league leading defense this year...has yielded 31 points today...can't blame that on the QB...

so I was looking at their record this year...and was really surprised at the quality of opponents they amassed a 13-4 record in regular season...not to mention their defensive accolades...they played a bunch of what George calls "tomato cans"...perhaps the easiest schedule in the entire NFL...their 17 opponents in regular season had a combined record of 120 wins and 168 loses...for a paltry 41% winning average...that's some pretty crummy teams they played...not saying they are paper lions with that defense...but they sure had an easy schedule this year...the only really good team they played was Kansas City...which they lost 44-23...

seem to remember the cowboys beating them ....... and then losing to them when it mattered most

Philly is a much better team than Dallas...as are the 49ers with a decent QB...

it was a wash...they beat our backup...we beat their backup...neither of those games mattered much in the grand scheme of things...

Dallas has a really bad QB that they are married to financially...
Dak has the honor of leading the league with INT's...by a long shot...
17 INT's in 13 games...that's an amazing number...

The game was over when Purdy left. I think SF would have otherwise beaten them but at least we would have had an engrossing game to watch than the one sided affair it turned into.

HUGE DISADVANTAGE...
an entire game plan was made for Purdy's skills...
when he left...they lost any chance of winning...
like Doug says...this grueling schedule depletes rosters..

I'm really surprised by KC's lack of talent on offense. They have no running game. A hodge podge of receivers. Kelce is the only star on that offense for Mahomes. A one-legged Mahomes is going to be clobbered by Philly. Cincy is a well-coached team but they are very vanilla on offense. They have talent at receiver and Burrows but don't score much even with their great defense. Felt bad for Ossai. His teammates deserted him on sideline after that game. Not a great look.

That was one of the most boneheaded plays I've ever seen, Mahomes was 5 feet out of bounds, what is that guy thinking, I would have deserted him too, he cost them a trip to the Super Bowl.

The Cincinnati patchwork offensive line got exposed yesterday, they have two very good running backs and two outstanding WR's and a very good tight end and they still lost, I don't get it.

The injury to Purdy turns out to be serious. A torn UCL is his throwing arm. Surgery and then six months to recover. Opens up the QB situation again in SF.

They basically now have no QBs. If Brock needs reconstructive surgery he will be out longer, Trey Lance just had a second ankle surgery (plus he’s unproven) and Jimmy is a FA.

Paging Mr. Brady!

Scratch that one. Retired.

As if the Broncos didn't make enough bad decisions by trading away their future for Russell Wilson, they are hiring Sean Payton. One of the most overrated NFL coaches in history. And giving up a first round pick for the privilege. Coaching must be a great career. Results never matter for your next job.

His 53 second retirement announcement was as genuine as it gets.

30 seconds/48 seconds; oh boy, the room got dusty twice.

What a privilege and an honor it was as a lifelong Patriots fan to see him perform here, there will never be another QB like him or a New England Patriots player I will respect and admire more than him.

Aside from a couple of magical seasons that ended in defeat prior to, he took this team from a laughing stock to a team that will never be matched regarding success, an incredible 20 year run.

No doubt the greatest QB of all time. No one else is even close. I can't believe Fox Sports is going to pay him $350 million, though. That is insane. Brady is not exactly the commentator type. That will never work.

Dry white toast comes to mind.

Peyton Manning on the other hand, is hysterical, one of the networks needs to hire him, Greg Olsen is on the #1 announcing team on Fox and is doing the Super Bowl?

Mother of God.

And Romo is worse................if I hear one more time "OH JIM!!, THIS IS SO SPECIAL/AWESOME/UNREAL/HERE WE GO!!" I'm going to scream.

Mahomes thanks to him has the cleanest package in town, talk about a honk.

What do you think about Kraft wanting Brady to sign a one-day contract to retire as a Pat? At first blush, that seemed like a good idea, but if I were Brady it might be thanks but no thanks since Kraft didn't sign him when it mattered.

That's so hacky, he retired as a Buc, is going into the HOF as a Patriot and a Buc, that horse left the barn, time to let it go.

Just a bad, bad, bad decision both then and ever more so now as we had to suffer through the corpse of Cam Newton and Mac Jones.

As far as the Niner’s season goes?

They lost their first and second QB’s to injury yet remained relevant until the NFC Championship game with their third string QB who was the last pick in the draft. Punters and kickers were drafted before him.

So yes, the Super Bowl is every team’s goal, yet I can’t help but feel this was one of the franchise’s greatest seasons ever.

Against the Eagles nothing seem to go right from the get go. First, Fred Warner was injured (although he came back), then the Eagles cheated and got away with it on the first score (Kyle must have been sleeping) and then Purdy was injured. I think one of the SF papers described this as the Lemony Snicket game: a series of unfortunate events. It just wasn’t in the cards that day.

Brad:

Great post.

KNBR, the Niner’s flagship station, summed up the Eagles game by saying San Francisco overcame every obstacle imaginable in the regular season, it was going to take catastrophes on an epic scale to stop them and they finally met that fate against Philly.
