Hi Guys,

As some of you know this coming Saturday, 21 October KING & COUNTRY will be once again in Singapore at the Singapore Cricket Club for our Annual Gathering, with our K&C collectors in the ‘Lion City’ and nearby Malaysia.

As usual, we will be bringing some great looking dioramas to show off some of our newest releases as well as previewing upcoming ones... PLUS a few surprises.

Among the displays will be this one, which we’re calling “SINGAPORE RED BEACH II”.
This is the 2nd Beach Landing diorama Gordon has produced featuring our new (and a few long-retired) U.S. Marines.
The original “TARAWA” beach dio was snapped-up by a dedicated K&C collector at Chicago and now resides proudly in Colorado!
This new one was built especially for Singapore and the upcoming London December Show... Hope you like it.

Best wishes to one and all,
Andy

Looks fabulous Andy congrats to Gordon !

Of course with this new line in U.S. Marines and interest it's generated for their various landings, we really need you to release some more Amtracs LVT 1, 2's and 4's again after all if we're getting artillery we need something to land it in ! Perhaps if you re-release them maybe just green without the camo paint job and LCVP's, I'm sure there are D Day / Scheldt etc collectors who still need them too !

Hi Steve,
Thanks for your appreciative words and suggestions...At the moment we are working on artillery for the Marines and Navy Corpsmen however we will look at other 'Amtracks' in the future...We just have to get this first one out...First!
Best wishes and...Semper Fi.
Andy.

My complements to Gordon and all the K&C staff for another round of wonderful dioramas and ideas.

Each one is packed with a wealth of details on what we can all (hopefully) try to incorporate into our own designs.
I picked up my next three USMC sets yesterday ... THANK YOU, GEORGE ... at a local show.

Also found a BMC Amtrack that I am going to have a try at upgrading to like to the one you guys did in the first TARAWA diorama.

Really well done in all aspects, Andy, Gordon and K&C folks.

PS: Can you divulge the secret to making the superb looking palm tree logs that form the beach wall?^&confuse

Hi Larry,
Thankyou once more for your appreciation of our work and the new USMC figures (there's even more on the way)!

Now, onto those Palm logs that make up the sea wall...Relatively easy and cheap to make...Here's how...Select 3/8 of an inch diameter lengths of dowling...cut into lengths of say 5 or 6 inches...Wrap thin uneven strips of masking tape around the lengths in slightly varying thicknesses.

For a beach wall like the ones in Gordon's dips you will need 30-40 'logs' at least...Undercoat each 'log' with dark brown or even Black in places(household emulsion) ...Allow to dry...And then 'drybrush' with lighter shades of the original colour and/or sand colour...Hey Presto! Now you have your chopped-down sea wall of Palm logs!!!

Also, study on the Internet actual photos of the Tarawa and other beach front assaults in the Pacific.
Hope this proves useful, best wishes, Andy.

On a forum ram-packed with ‘dio’ experts, there’s a shortage of simple, basic, good advice like this. I often find that many collectors of figures (like myself) would love to try their hand at something yet are too frightened to try. Especially in the coffin like apartment constraints of Asia.

Andy - a workshop?

Hello Vicknor,

I am not sure if I would say frightened :rolleyes2: .... but many folks believe that their efforts will not come up to the HIGH standards that are continually shown by all the wonderful diorama builders.

We are all here just to have fun, but I fear there are some who just don't want to make an attempt. I would always welcome helpful criticism an advice from anyone.

You may (or may NOT) know I did a rather detailed "tutorial" on how to build a Wigwam for under $5.00. It was a lot of work to post the pictures and text but it was also a LOT of fun. {sm4} For example, DesertKiwi (Toddy) just did one a short while ago that featured "building simple log cabin." It was very helpful in getting me to build one and experiment with options along the way ... some successful and others NOT SO MUCH!

CAN you imagine a book by Andy / Gordon on "How to build a diorama?"

Hi LaRRy,

have I ever told you that I appreciate your advice? Thanks a lot for your useful input. Let's get back to it. If you're in there, I'd like you to know that I agree with every word you said. This forum is my favourite hangout and every day I'm discovering something new. I've learned new stuff all the time but that's never enough for me ... Let me say one last thing... To share something with people from other countries is the greatest happiness :)

Best regards

Enrico

P.s.: Gordon's book??? However you pull it off, sign me up.{sm3}

Hi Guys, hi Larry.
Gordon and yours truly would love to produce a book on our K&C dioramas...We've certainly produced enough of them!

On several occasions we have even began work on just such a project only to be side-tracked by the necessities of designing and building more dioramas either for K&C or for private commissions for individual collectors.

The other thing is producing a book is a long slow process that should never be hurried or thrown together hastily...Actually it's a bit like building good dioramas themselves!!!

Next year, 2018 is K&C's 35th. Anniversary...Maybe that's the perfect time to finally get this project 'off the ground'...I'm hoping so anyway...I even have a potential title, adapted from one we were going to use many years back...

'35 Years Hard Labour & A Whole Lot of Fun!'

Best wishes and many thanks for ALL your support and appreciation during that time...and still today,
Andy.

Vicknor, Time to relocate. Moreover, property prices in Sgp are undervalued compared to HK/Sz.

Yes, a workshop like this will be great and will sell even more toy soldiers!!

Both u guys need to relocate from HK and SP respectively to Manila.......enjoy palatial man-cave display space for collections at a fraction of the price.....come on over.

PS love the idea of a book, especially if packed with Dios.

:salute::{sm4}
