This new range of WW1 soldiers is great, and with Australian Light Horse, the forthcoming Turks defending Bersheeba, this will fill a void in collections of the Great War

I was hoping that I could use my Del Grado General Joffre
DEL-MW64.jpg

to go with the new figures as they had 2 generals, but K&C has released another Joffre

Oh well.... such is life!

By the way, can anyone (Andy) enlighten us to the origin of the magificent fortress that was featured in the image of the Le armee de Francais 1914

Its brilliant !!!!!, and could be used for Napoleonic, 7 Years War and such.....

Just love these new french figures and french figures in general, just wonder if they could be used for earlier periods?
Its just a shame that Toysoldiers in Paris hasn't added to its "L’armée Française" range, these will do for now:D
Have to say that FW071 "Auf Wiedersen"/FW072 "Au Revoir"/FW07touching3 "Goodbye-ee" are the stand out figures for me ,they tell a poignant tale, without the need for a massive cash outlay.
Truly touching, and one of which the idea could used in most of King&Countrys ranges, oh well looks like i will be chasing the overtime again,to pay for it all;)

I second the question on the fortress. Also believe that the Great War range is slowly (thank God slowly:D) turning out to be one of the best K&C ranges, at least in my view and according to my interests. The figures are all absolutely 1st rate and if I had the room I would probably try and collect them all.

What earlier periods are you referring to? The new French figures are certainly good for late 19th century but not back to the Franco-Prussian War of 1870. There would be too many changes necessary for accuracy, most noticeably the weapons, and some uniform details, also. -- lancer

Thanks Lancer for the quick reply, as to what time period these could be used for at least i know now.
I have the Légionnaire au Maroc 1900-1910 & Le Fusilier-marin 1870-1871 from the Paris shop, its just that they are getting lonely:( and wanted to add to them .Guess not i will have to email them and see if more figures are due in this collection i will let you know?
regards Steve

I would guess that the magnificent fortress is one of Gordon's creations, meant for display at the Westcoaster. If it is not sold at the Westcoaster, or if it is sold to someone who wants it shipped, it may end up on display at the Symposium. As much as I have neither the room nor the scratch for another K&C diorama, this type of diorama (a fortress) is right up my alley.

And the gauntlet is thrown down. :D Now here is something we could do a poll on - who will end up with the display? My money is on Louis with Steven Chong as runner up. Louis took only 5 minutes from saying he wanted the Figarti landing craft at Chicago once it was unveiled to trading for it. Now that was impressive. But some of you may favour tdubel or Njja? Anyone else in the running? :)

Just out of curiosity - what do these hand built displays go for ?

I'm not sure - they are out of reach. But I think for a relatively simple one like that, not including the figures, would be $700 - $1000. And if it is for the West Coaster, it may not even be available at the end of the show.

The dio, if for sale (not necessarily a given since the building for the initial German release wasn't) would probably be in the three thousand to five thousand range, plus you would have to buy the soldiers.

That much  It's just a small dio - not like the submarine harbour scene.

Terry

Well, how much was the sub dio. I wouldn't be surprised if that was in the sixes or the sevens.

Now we need some 1914 Zouaves.

Russ
Now we're talkin'. France had a large array of colorful colonial and native troops available, not to mention their cavalry and artillery. Bring on the 75's! -- lancer

The submarine diorama was sold at the OTSN. As someone who has purchased more than ten of K&C's custom dioramas, I can tell you Brad is probably correct about the asking price. When I bought the original (considerably larger) Saracen/Crusader Castle diorama three OTSN's ago, I paid $3,500 for it. Since that time, the demand for K&C custom dioramas has driven the price up considerably.

The figures are nice, but give me the fortress. I wish K & C would market the fortress selling the corner and a connecting straight wall unit, then later maybe a gate. I would buy it.

King's Man

Lots of great options.........tirailleurs Senegalais, Tirailleurs Algeriens, spahis to name a few. All would are vrey interesting subjects, full of color and "exoticness".

Lancer,

you are right about wanting French Artillery from WW1, you can never have enough guns on the battlefield!

Maybe K&C can make some more 75mm guns thats used in the FOB031 set, and give us a new crew?

FOB031.jpg

This is much like the Napoleonic series where the gun carriage is has been used for 3 sets (Horse Guard Arty, Foot Line Arty and the howitzer) and where the WW1 German 77mm Krupp is in 2 different sets with 2 different crew.
