Truth be told, I know less than nothing about this barbaric act posing as a sport; that said, that knock out last night in the MMA women's fight was just beyond brutal.

Rousy took a shot to the face that almost pushed her nose to the back of her dome, then a kick to the head where she was out cold before she hit the ground.

I used to think she was hot in a MMA/she'd kick the crap out of you/sort of way, now her entire face got rearranged last night, so she went from hot to not.

She was taken to school by a boxer, man oh man she walked right into an overhand shot that would have stopped a freight train...................

Rousey was on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon a few weeks ago where she outlined Holm expected strategy for the fight. Rousey said Holm was probably going to, "keep far away from me and keep me frustrated to a point where I’ll make a mistake and she’ll try to kick me in the head" That is exactly what happened. Rousey was being overmatched through the 1st and 2nd rounds. Knowing Holm strategy and seeing it working so well, why didn't Rousey make some adjustment. Reminded me of Clay vs Liston.

I'm thinking more Mike Tyson/Buster Douglas, but your point is well taken; she got her clock cleaned.

She's lucky after that kick to the head when she went down like a bag of cement that Holm basically whiffed on the first punch or her face would be more mangled than it is now (if that's possible as it looked like raw hamburger).................

I'm a huge Rousey fan so cudo's to H Holmes. I didn't see the fight (found myself in a deer stand all weekend) but sounds like it was a brutal face alteration event. That's a shame. The price you pay to be the champ; someone always after your title. It will be interesting to see what happens next. Rhonda had always talked about early retirement and being undefeated but she also talked about losing and how tough it would be on her if she ever did. Well that day has come. I'm sure Rhonda's competitive spirit will have her begging for a rematch and a chance to get the belt back. If that happens I wish she would retire then. Lord knows she doesn't need the money. The rematch fight alone will be huge profits for the UFC, the fighters and the promoters of the sport.

I used to love this girl...but her publicity people have really overplayed her image...

I'm not looking for a sweet muscle girl...^&grin...

but her marketing has turned her into a loud mouth annoying bully...

first she is gonna take down Mayweather...

and it just rolled form there...

don't know if anybody has seen Entourage...the movie...

but she plays herself in there and breaks Turtle's arm in one scene...

in another scene she jumps out of her car and beats the hood of another car with a lead pipe...

again...

maybe it's all promotion...

but she does not seem to know the meaning of the word humble...

but again...

maybe it's just an act to promote herself...

and after this last fight...she might change...

Check out the fight, it's all over the internet.

The clean shot she takes to the face is mind numbing, she walked right into it, it was a full on shot to her nose and upper jaw, which would be bad enough if it was boxing, but in this sport, they basically wear padded gloves and the girl she fought was a boxer by trade, so you do the math.

I saw a video of Rousy shadow boxing, it's comical from a point of view of someone who actually knows how to box; if she gets a rematch, my advice is get a professional boxer to train her on how to actually box, from what I've seen, Rocky Balboa is available.......................

Sorry for the haters of this sport or one's that don't think it's a sport. Steroids in baseball, cheaters in football and wife beaters in basketball who get paid millions. Hmmm! Football teams that put bounty's on players to hopefully end their career's. How did that last big boxing match between Mayweather vs. Pacquiao pan out. Not worth the hype.
Rousey is like Tyson in his hay day. Fights only lasted seconds and then he was ousted by a long shot...Buster Douglas, I believe. Mike I believe alot of that loud mouth bullying you mentioned is promotional. That's one of the bad sides of being a champion in this sport. It seems everyone has to promote their own fights and so the "in your face" attitude is part of Dana White's business sense. Hate to compare it to WWF but it does carry that aspect of it in it's good guy vs bad guy theme. The big difference( I know some won't believe this) but wrestling is fake and for entertainment purposes. Not to say the wrestlers are not athletes but compared to UFC/MMA the punches and submissions are real and the technical aspect of the submissions are pretty unreal.
George that's what makes Mixed Martial Arts or Ultimate Fighter Championship the sport it is. Its pretty rare to have a fighter that is trained in every aspect, be it boxing or all contingents of the martial arts. They may train in it but they can't be an expert in every field. So yes, if Rousey returns to the ring I'm sure she will brush up on her boxing or counter technique, especially the one of putting her face in front of a straight arm punch. Barbaric as Brad says, the sport is what it is. Its not sugar coated or advertised as anything else. You know two people enter the ring to put a serious hurting on each other. Gladiator days, maybe! These guys and girls earn their money compared to some other sports athletes that's for sure. Not sure how many of you have ever been in a fight but taking a shot to the face or any other part of the body isn't fun and not getting payed for it is worse...lol!!
If you ever get a chance to hear the interview of Howard Stern and Rhonda Rousey it's pretty good. Not the biggest fan of Stern but this interview showed the side of Rousey as a pretty humble person and thankful for what god has given her.

Nice try Brian but it's nothing more than a modern version of gladiators. It's basically a throwback to the era of the cavemen, not much better than dogs tearing at each other or cock fighting.

Yeah I'm sure there are a lot of fans of this sport as they watch two people try to kill each other.

And it's true that boxing has jumped the shark and will never be the sport it used to be, you can thank assclowns like Don King for ruining that sport.

That said, boxing involves skill and trying to outbox your opponent, not beat his brains in, break his arm or knock him senseless, then jump on him and continue to pummel him.

No thanks, I'll pass.

to each his own...

but how you don't see boxing as brutal...

I'll never understand that one...

boxers are paid to knock each other out...

I have seen 100's...maybe 1,000's of guys flat knocked out cold in boxing...

I have seen a ton of brutal damage in boxing over the years...fatalities included...

just like boxing...the refs in MMA stop the fight when one fighter becomes defenseless...

most MMA fights are called on submission holds...

so MMA is brutal but boxing is cool huh?

if you don't think MMA involves skill...

you're just missing it all together...

these people travel and hire experts from all over the world to train them...

the MMA is just like boxing...they try to beat each others brains out...they try to destroy each other...

I have seen boxers faces so swollen they don't look human...

I don't know what kind of boxing you guys have been watching...

I have been watching that nose flattend...eyes swollen shut...ear biting boxing...

and just like boxing...

when they have a guy hurt...

they continue to pummel him...

if you don't like...

just don't watch it...

I'm not gonna vie for your viewership...

I like to watch boxing, but it can be brutal. If an eye is cut, they focus on punching that cut until blood flows so the other guy can't see. MMA, however, is combat. I love watching war documentaries, but Combat Rescue, the show where they rescue the wounded, really brings reality home and I don't care to watch that. Similar to MMA.

thank you...very good point...

and I love boxing also...even though it is a brutal sport...

just read an article on boxing vs MMA...

http://www.askmen.com/sports/fanatic_300/316_which-is-more-dangerous-boxing-or-mma.html

it leads off with...

The American Association of Neurological Surgeons says that 90% of boxers will have sustained a brain injury by the end of their careers.

90% of boxers will have sustained a brain injury by the end of their careers...

...........................90%............................

From 1998 to 2006, there were 70 recorded deaths caused by injuries related to the sport of boxing.

but that's not brutal huh?

go ask Mohammed Ali if he thinks it's brutal...

I have watched a few boxing matches. I have never seen one though where once a guy is knocked down his opponent jumps on him to continue the beating.

you won't...
or you probably won't...
and that's because...
that is not allowed in boxing...
you will be disqualified for that...

in boxing...
you're not allowed to hit a man when he falls to the ground...

I do watch a lot of boxing...
and as you may have not seen but a few fights...

I have seen many times...
where a fighter fell to his knees and his beating continued...
until the ref could stop it...

I have seen chairs thrown by a fighter's corner...
I have seen the trainers and the entourage of a fighter attack his opponent...
I have seen a mother come into the ring and attack her son's opponent...
I saw a chunk of an ear bitten off a man...
I have seen fighters hit the referees...
I have seen intentional low blows...
fighters on PED's...
fighters with eye irritants on their gloves...
loaded gloves...
head butts...
hitting on the break up of a clinch...

some boxing matches are just flat criminal...

you guys think boxing is so clean and pristine...
so non-brutal...so safe compared to MMA...
these guys don't even know what the Queensbury Rules are...

most of them are viscous thugs...

you can't compare football rules to baseball rules...
they are different...
each sport has it's own set of rules...

however...

in boxing...where you have never seen a man get hit on the ground...
you can corner him against the ropes and beat him as unmercifully as you want...
and it happens all the time...
until...like in boxing and both the MMA...
the referee mercifully stops the fighter from killing him...

The person who trained me how to box wasn't from da hood homes, he taught me the right way to box, not to try to kill the other person.

I boxed for a long time, I ain't got no dane bramage, I is fine.

I've lost interest in the fight game; back in the day, the object was to outpoint the person, not beat them into a coma.

Boxing in it's truest form was/is in the olympics.

To each his own, people want to watch two people step into a caged octagon and try to kill each other, have at it.

I'm becoming a fan of team chess and checkers myself, although if it gets really crazy, someone might try to gouge an eye out with a chess piece.

Team tiddlywinks is a hot sport around here now too.
