LIZARD MUSIC---THE SMASHING MACHINE team of Dwayne Johnson and director Benny Safdie will reunite for the movie based on the novel whose plot is described as, "When a boy left to his own devices stumbles upon a secret late-night broadcast of lizards playing otherworldly music, a hidden door to the extraordinary swings open. His search for answers leads him to the eccentric and whimsical Chicken Man and his beloved companion, a 70-year-old chicken named Claudia — two kindred spirits who have also glimpsed the impossible. United by this shared vision, they set off on an adventure that begins as a hunt for a hidden society but blossoms into something far greater: a voyage through invisible worlds, unexpected harmonies, and the unbreakable bond between lost souls who discover magic not only in what they find, but in each other."
Johnson confirmed he has lost a lot of weight for LIZARD MUSIC.

FURY---Guillermo del Toro said he is reuniting with his FRANKENSTEIN star, Oscar Isaac, for a new movie, “I’m writing it right now, and it’s called FURY and essentially it’s going back to sort of thriller aspects of NIGHTMARE ALLEY — very cruel, very violent. Like MY DINNER WITH ANDRE but killing people after each course.”

TWO AND A HALF MEN---Charlie Sheen commented on his being fired from the comedy tv series in his memoir THE BOOK OF SHEEN, "It didn't go as planned. What I chose not to quit was the testosterone cream that I was slathering on in mind-altering gobs like a f---en Pond's commercial. After all, it was 'legal.' I'd been using it to get my body back into shape, not knowing that at the same time I was being shape-shifted.
That drug is known to metabolize into the identical psych profile an anabolic steroid will produce. Anyone who bore witness to the raging demon I melded with will hopefully glean some clarity for what my state of mind was up against.
Not making excuses or asking for a pass. Just putting it out there there as a detail that may have been confused with a laundry list of other potential suspects.... I've heard great things about the drug when used responsibly, but let's keep it real — drugs and responsible are two words I never made of habit of cramming into the same sentence."

ONLY MURDERS IN THE BUILDING---Martin Short said he wants a Season 6, “We believe we’re doing another season; we think so. But you have to live season by season. And even if it was canceled tomorrow, we would have to say, ‘We had a great, great run.’ … We loved what we were doing. It was a great way to spend five, six years.”

LEANNE---Netflix renewed the series for Season 2.

FLORIDA TASK FORCE---BOSCH creator Michael Connelly and Paramount Television are developing an untitled tv series based on Connelly's career as a crime reporter for several Florida newspapers.

SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY---Tom Holland said he has been paying attention to the fans for BRAND NEW DAY, “For me, I want to do justice to Peter Parker’s character. I want to bring the fans something that’s really worthy of their time, and I’m very grateful for their investment in our franchise. I don’t mean financially, I mean the time to go to the cinema three times. That’s a big ask.
I did a lot of sneaky research online – looking at what people were saying in the interim between SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME and now SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY. I really just kind of put together a vibe of what people were looking for and went to Marvel and said, ‘This is what I think we should be doing.’
I think that’s exactly what we are doing. So, it’s been a really fun process developing the movie. It’s the first time I’ve ever been allowed in that part of the process, and it’s definitely a stressful experience. But I think where we’ve got to, now that we’re shooting, we are shooting absolute gold.”

THE CONJURING---HBO Max tv series underway based on the horror movie franchise.

LICE---photo and synopsis released for the horror movie starring Justin Long and Emile Hirsch, "A gruesome death. A sealed-off high school. Something crawling beneath the skin. When a student’s terrifying breakdown shocks a classroom, an almost invisible parasite spreads through the halls, instantly twisting teens into maniacs. Locked inside with no escape, students and staff spiral into violence and hysteria. Amid the chaos, Principal Van (Justin Long) struggles to maintain control, drowning his anxiety in alcohol before losing his grip on reality – and his head. Burned-out science teacher Mr. Shanker (Emile Hirsch) steps up as the only adult trying to make sense of the madness, uncovering traces of a government experiment gone wrong. Outside the quarantined halls, Detective Sikorski (Kevin Connolly) races to contain the outbreak before it consumes the entire town. The real horror isn’t what’s under your skin – it’s what it makes you do."

MY HERO ACADEMIA---Netflix is developing a live-action movie based on the manga with the script being written by Jason Fuchs (WONDER WOMAN).

HEATHER OF THE VALLEY---Zooey Deschanel and Michelle Buteau will star in the comedy movie about two ex-high school classmates who are obsessed with the tv series SCOTLANDER and whose plot is described as, "A twist of fate catapults them from the San Fernando Valley back in time to a hilariously gritty, historically accurate version of 18th-century Scotland. And what should have been a romantic escape from their lives turns into a violent, foul-smelling, and dangerously real nightmare — forcing the women to survive sword fights, scheming aristocrats, and the indignities of the past armed only with modern-day sass, resourcefulness… and the occasional Britney Spears dance routine."

TRIVIA---two James Bond movie stars, Maud Adams (THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN, OCTOPUSSY) and George Lazenby (ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE) appeared in the 1988 exploitation movie HELL HUNTERS in which a former Nazi scientist has developed a formula from spiders venom that will turn Los Angeles into a city of zombies.
In HELL HUNTERS, Maud Adams played Nazi hunter Amanda, who is trying to track down Nazi scientist Dr. Martin Hoffman (Stewart Granger), who has been hiding in the jungles of Paraguay since World War II. Dr. Hoffman, and his Nazi partner, Heinrich (George Lazenby), want to put a formula Hoffman developed from a rare South American spider into the Los Angeles water supply which will turn the city's residents into zombies.

STAR WARS---Jim Cummings, voice of Hondo Ohnaka in STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS, said he might be returning, “I think you’re gonna have to stay tuned, because Hondo is not done yet. He’s one of my favorites, because he’s a lovable rogue. You could probably actually trust him… He looks out for Ezra, and he looks out for the younglings, as they call them, and he won’t do anything to harm anybody. But I wouldn’t want to play cards with him.”

STAR-WARS-FOTOR.jpg

STAR TREK 4---Zachary Quinto commented on the status of the fourth movie in the JJ Abrams franchise, “I would absolutely love to do another STAR TREK movie. I don’t understand why we haven’t done one yet, but hopefully now that the Skydance and Paramount merger is moving forward, Skydance was the financier of all the STAR TREK movies that we’ve done so far, and have been great partners in those films, and I would love to revisit it."
He added, “I actually just emailed J.J. this week to say, ‘Hey, this would be really exciting.’ I think fans would be really open to it and really welcome a final movie. I think it would be really great to do a fourth movie, and let’s make it happen.”

HANNIBAL---Bryan Fuller said he wants to develop a miniseries revival of the tv series that ran from 2013-2015 starring Mads Mikkelsen, “My dream project is to do a limited series of SILENCE OF THE LAMBS with Mads and Zendaya as Clarice Starling. If I could put anything out into the universe, I would put that into the universe.”
Fuller added, “It’s complicated now because Martha De Laurentiis died and she had a certain section of the rights, and now, Thomas Harris is trying to get the rights all under one umbrella. And I think that’s going to take a couple of years of straightening out...But the entire cast wants to come back: Mads, Hugh, Lawrence, Katie, Caroline – like everybody’s in. It’s just a matter of: Will the rights be able to be figured out again?”

THE HOUSEMAID---photo and synopsis released from the thriller movie starring Sidney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried, “But what begins as a dream job quickly unravels into something far more dangerous — a sexy, seductive game of secrets, scandal and power. She is sent to the crumbling estate of one necromancer who is to probe her forgotten memories and, as the book jacket teases, ‘Helena’s fight — to protect her lost history and to preserve the last remaining shreds of her former self — is just beginning. For her prison and captor have secrets of their own … secrets Helena must unearth, whatever the cost.’“

TRIVIA---Eric Pierpoint played Detective George Francisco in the ALIEN NATION sci fi tv/tv movie franchise based on the 1988 movie that starred James Caan and Mandy Patinkin. THE MANDALORIAN---Mark Hamill commented on why he returned for THE MANDALORIAN, “The reason I did MANDALORIAN was that Luke had a beginning and an end. There was no middle. It was like making a trilogy about James Bond as a young boy who first became aware of the Secret Service and wanted to be a part of it. Part two was him training to be an agent. Part three is earning his license to kill — The End. No FROM EUSSIA WITH LOVE, DR. NO or GOLDFINGER. You never got to see Luke as a Master Jedi at the peak of his powers.”
He added, “He was the most idealistic character in that series. He was someone who would take adversity and double down and come back and counter his setbacks. We didn’t see any of that. So when I got the chance, I thought, ‘Geez, this is wonderful.’ I think Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, boy, do they get STAR WARS. They get it. They’re speaking the same language that George did in a way that I questioned in the sequels.”

PRESUMED INNOCENT---Season 2 will be based on the upcoming novel DISSECTION OF A MURDER and stars Rachel Brosnahan (SUPERMAN) and Matthew Rhys (PERRY MASON). The novel's synopsis says, “When Leila Reynolds (Brosnahan) is handed her first murder case, she’s shocked at how high-profile it is: the murder of a well-respected, well-known judge. This shouldn’t be the kind of case she’s leading; it’s way beyond her expertise. But the defendant, Jack Millman, is clear. He wants her, and only her.”

THE WALKING DEAD: DARYL DIXON---Norman Reedus commented on he will return after DARYL DIXON's last season, “I don’t know. That’s not a decision I make. It was kind of told to us. We kind of perpetuated that it was always the plan, but that really wasn’t the plan. It was kind of the plan in the end. It might just be this version of this. I don’t know what’s happening. I don’t know where we’re going. I’m happy with what we’ve done and where we’re at, but who knows. I have no idea. I didn’t know the main show was going to go past Season 2”

F9---NBCUniversal executive Donna Langley apologized for the "space car" in the FAST & FURIOUS sequel, “I’m sorry that we sent them into space. We can never get that genie back.”

F9-FOTOR.jpg

VICIOUS---Dakota Fanning will star in the horror movie whose synopsis says, "When Polly (Dakota Fanning) receives a mysterious Box from an unexpected late-night visitor, it comes with a simple instruction: place three things inside: something you need, something you hate, and something you love. What begins as a strange ritual quickly unravels into a waking nightmare. Trapped in a terrifying world where reality bends and memory betrays, Polly must navigate a series of impossible choices. As time slips away, she’s forced to confront the darkness not just around her, but within her—before it consumes everything and everyone she’s ever known."

MIDNIGHT 3---a new sequel to the 1982 slasher movie is underway by Dustin Ferguson (NEMESIS 5).

FOUNDATION---Apple TV+ renewed the series for Season 4.

TRIVIA---Rod Taylor commented on his 3,200 avian co-stars in Alfred Hitchcock's THE BIRDS, "All the seagulls, they'd feed them whiskey and wheat. Of course, it's illegal now...The only reason they were staying still was because they were half-pissed [drunk]...They'd put raw meat in the lens and these huge ravens would swoop into the lens...It was weeks and weeks and weeks working with these bloody birds. I was poo-pooed on by every seagull in Northern California."
Taylor added that one bird named Archine in particular hated him, "Every morning, if we were on the set together, he'd come over and bite me. I hated him and he hated me."

THE BATMAN: PART II---Matt Reeves commented on the status of the sequel, “We’re beginning. We’re staffing up. We’re starting to get our crew back together. We’re getting ready. We’re basically entering [pre-production]. We’ll be making the movie in the spring… super excited.
Because of what the first movie was and what [PART II] is, which is so much a detective story, the idea of trying to protect the secrets of the movie is super important because it’s a mystery.
That would be an extra level of heartbreak if that part of it started getting out. You wanna keep the surprise so the fans… can have the fun experience that I always love going to the movies, which was to go and be surprised.”
Reeves said about Robert Pattinson, “He’s Batman, so if he doesn’t like it, not good. So, I was super excited because I thought that he really would [like it] because the things that it does for his character, for Batman, and for [Bruce Wayne] has never been done before in this way. And I had a feeling he would respond in this way, the fact that he did was incredibly encouraging.”
Reeves added that Cristin Milioti is not in the sequel.

AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY---Marvel Studios released the synopsis for the sequel starring Robert Downey, Jr. as Doctor Doom, "Doctor Doom has officially arrived in the MCU. This villain, a master of cutting-edge science and powerful magic, will unleash a cascading crisis across the entire multiverse."

MOVIE FRANCHISES---VARIETY published a scorecard of the top eight movie franchises based on commercial potential and creative health.
DC Studios scored well thanks to James Gunn's SUPERMAN. One movie executive said, “Gunn did the most important thing: The first movie he made was really good. If Batman and Superman are humming at the same time, there’s no limit to what they could do.”
Marvel Studios also scored high, but a Hollywood agent said, “I don’t have as many clients asking to do one as they were five years ago.” A movie executive said Marvel's two AVENGERS are "bulletproof', but “the standalone movies are in trouble, because you feel like you can miss it now."
The STAR WARS franchise had one producer saying, “It should be the biggest franchise of all time...They stopped making it special; nothing makes me more mad. The sky’s the limit if they could get it right.” A movie executive added, “When you don’t have a film to show for seven years, that’s just not healthy."
The James Bond movies scored high with Denis Villeneuve directing the new 007 movie, but a lot depends on who will play the new James Bond.
Insiders commented on the JURASSIC franchise with one screenwriter saying, “They are just remaking the same movie over and over. It’s almost like a CBS procedural of a blockbuster.” Another filmmaker said: “The quality’s been all over the map and it doesn’t affect it at all" and a producer added, "They’ve [Universal Studios] done the most with the least, partly because they’ve made it scarce."
The STAR TREK franchise scored at the bottom with one Hollywood veteran saying, “I’m so sad they [Paramount Pictures] haven’t done anything with it. If David Ellison is smart, this will be a priority.” A top movie executive added, “Someone’s going to have to have a disruptive approach for it to be relevant again.”

VARIETY-1-FOTOR-2.jpg

THE PENGUIN---Matt Reeves said he has talked to showrunner Lauren Lefranc about a Season 2, “We’ll see. We’re just in the beginning of thinking about it. But obviously, we’re super excited about what we’re able to do, and if we can do more, if it can be as good or better than the last season, which is I think a tall order given the incredible work we already did. We definitely would love to...We’re in discussions. Lauren is thinking hard and we’re talking, so we’ll see.”

GOD OF WAR---top candidates to star in the Amazon Prime tv series based on the video game are reported to be Henry Cavill,
Jason Momoa, Davie Bautista, Travis Fimmel, Winston Duke, Joe Manganiello, Christopher Judge, Paul Levesque, Oliver Ritchers and Manu Bennett.

INSIDIOUS 6---Lyn Shaye and Amelia Eve will star in the latest sequel.

TRIVIA---in the classic Vietnam War movie APOCALYPSE NOW, Martin Sheen played Capt. Willard, who is assigned to kill a renegade Army officer.
In THE OUTER LIMITS episode "Nightmare", Sheen had one of his first acting roles as Pvt. Dix, an Earth POW tortured by the alien Ebonites during an interstellar war. The POW torture is really a sadistic experiment by Earth military officers, one of whom is ironically played by character actor Willard Sage.
