MLB 2026 (1 Viewer)

I do.

Netflix openly negotiated for the broadcast and that included the exclusion of all local rights.

I wanted to watch/listen to the game via the Giants local cast via John Miler just like I have done on opening day since 1997.
It’s a different world broadcast wise now. Games are on your local broadcast channel, Peacock, Amazon and Apple. You need subscriptions to all of them to watch your team. That’s just the way sports is nowadays.

Brad:

As always I respect your opinions, especially when it comes to baseball.

I understand the changes and I respect the fact the MLB can make me do it via exclusivity.

However they can’t make me like it.

I'm already now paying for NESN, which used to be free BTW, to watch Bruins and Red Sox games.

I'm not paying for any other streaming services to watch games that they choose to air on other channels, I call BS.

About once a month, a Friday night RS game is broadcast on Apple; nope, no thanks.

One reason I switched to DirecTV years ago was do I could get the Mets games. Otherwise, no games. I already have Apple so no extra cost there. I obviously have ESPN, TBS and TNT so no added cost there either. Some games will be on Peacock and that’s where I draw the line, mostly because I don’t find their non sports programming all that interesting.

I’d pay to watch/listen to the baseball analysis of Dennis Eckersley.

His unbiased and informed opinions were insightful and most importantly honest even if that meant criticizing the Sox.

It’s already there. You can complain about it but that’s the reality: watch or don’t watch.
It's pretty much there already...my generation of cable and satellite users are slowly dying off more and more...

Direct TV...Comcast...Xfinity...Charter...just like pay phones...land lines...typewriters and phone books...it's the new world of the Internet...

lots of kids today don't watch tv...some don't even own them...they watch everything on their phone on streaming...those apps are pretty cheap compared to cable/satellite monthly subscriptions

I'm a die hard...I still like cable and satellite...I will pay extra...I like my 75" Samsung picture...I enjoy the big screen view...

I can't watch sports on a tiny 5 1/2" x 2 1/2"Apple phone screen...

I won't watch, because it's not life or death, so that's one less person they get to soak.

No one ever said it was life or death but at least for me it gives me pleasure and the baseball season is something I look forward to and if it costs a little extra, that is not a problem for me. Most of the games (140 I’d guess) are on the Mets station (which is included in my DirecTV subscription) so I’m not really paying anything extra for it.

RS games here are on NESN, which used to be free/part of basic cable, then John Henry the raging cheapskate bought NESN and turned it into a pay channel, so now as a RS fan, I have to pay to watch RS and Bruins games as they are both on NESN, then throw in he's broadcasting about a dozen Friday night games on Apple TV, another pay as you go.

Nope, not for this fan.

Enough is enough.

I can see down the road MLB, NBA, NFL and NHL playoff games will be pay to watch, they are already doing that with one wildcard game in the NFL, it's on Peacock.

As Mike said, streaming is a pain in the butt.

Guaranteed at some point the Super Bowl will be pay to watch.

I guess the Dodgers will only win 161 this year. It's doubly painful to lose to the "Guardians." Imagine being ashamed to be called the Indians.

So we shouldn’t plan on reading your pearls of wisdom in this thread this year?

Um...........because I won't be watching the dozen or so games they make you pay to watch?

Your attempt at put down humor was a riddle wrapped in a mystery surrounded by fail.

This is how I've been watching the 1-4 Red Sox games that have been on NESN so far this year.

If you can’t see the games, how can you possibly comment? Of course, there is always radio and highlight shows.

If not, we will just have to wait for you and Doug to resume your Laurel and Hardy show on the Pats.

Que sera, sera!

NESN broadcasts about 130 games a year, which is part of my cable package.

Another 15 or so are on FOX or ESPN, both of which are free.

The remaining games are usually Friday night home games that the owner Henry forces you to watch on Apple TV, WHICH I DO NOT HAVE AND REFUSE TO PAY FOR.

So only about 10% of the games are on a pay to view basis which I will not be watching; the way they are going, I won't be watching many of the NESN games either, they suck.

I misunderstood you, I thought you had to pay for the whole thing. 130 is not bad. I don’t think you can blame Apple on Henry. I think that’s a Manfred thing.

Laurel and Hardy were great. They had a sense of humor.
