The second photo is a recast Britians Boer War figure from about 1901 or 1904. The oval bases were pretty early production.

that is a horrible idea. one of things i don't miss about the hobby was how knit-picky some collectors can be - like OCD level. can you imagine what the bouncers would have to go through those types coming into the establishment? would the rivet counters and correct buttons and piping guys go...

I have one of these complete sets. I love it. All hand painted, all of the characters, flags, everything. The figures are the older style chunky castings - one of my all time favorites. One heck of a heavy box too.

The Pings are really fun figures. I've had quite a few pass through over the years. I did keep one. A rare one - a hens teeth type rarity. It depicts an anatomically correct village peasant whizzing. Try finding that one...

something about the first figures painting style reminds me tommy atkins.

this is not anger, it is eccentricity. don't take it personally unless it tries to kick you in nuts. they do more harm to themselves than anybody else.
