What else do you collect beside toy soldiers

This is a small selection of my 28mm Victrix Roman Legionaries and Auxiliaries that have been professionally painted and the 45x45cm terrain board is from the master himself, David Marshall, from TM Terrain. I love this little diorama.

More JJD Caesarian Roman fort sentries, marching figures, mules, carts, Centurion, Optio etc. Would like to see more terrain/display boards on offer.

    Caption Contest #17

My winnings! Heartwarming generosity from John. There is actually a sixth figure I seem to have cut out of the shot too! As EMF once said.....unbelievable.

    Caption Contest #17

I can't believe John's generosity. My package turned up yesterday and my jaw dropped when I saw the contents. Will post them later. He never fails to bring joy to the hobby.

John Jenkins Treasure Hunt 2018 at the Chicago Toy Soldier Show!

The most amazing set of sculpts I have ever seen.

What else do you collect beside toy soldiers

I always shop around for new talent in the 28mm painting sphere and found this great up and coming young lad from the North of England called Craig who painted these little Caesarian beauties from Warlord Games for £5.50 a piece including assembly and shield transfers using enamels. David from...

    Request for new series

I also thought the Border Reivers were a potential subject far off the beaten track too plus they would give an opportunity for a JJ super structure to compliment any figures in the form of a Peel Tower. At one point in their history they didn't look too dissimilar to the Conquistadors!

    Request for new series

I agree a JJ longship would be interesting but a Viking series seems like it could be a path too much travelled already by other manufacturers. It's not my area of interest at all but I did wonder if the Mongols could be a future as yet untapped series. I know John likes a bit of colour.

What ever happened to the "P" range............?

What was the rationale behind this venture?

    Get stuck in to WW2

Reading between the lines, are you saying that all the other manufacturers that release WW2 this and WW2 that, just don't do it for you? I personally regard John as an innovator but certainly not a follower. I think this is why JJ is so highly regarded and indeed supported, he steers away from...

New Releases for June 2018 - Armies and Enemies of Ancient Rome

My box of eight legionaries turned up recently but unfortunately one of them had the top of his pilum missing but as ever Clive from Grey Goose and of course John sorted it out without any fuss. Fantastic models, fantastic people, fantastic service.

London Toy Soldier Show Pictures June 2018

I pootled along yesterday for the first time in 5 years and have to agree, the venue lends itself to the feel of a Blue Peter "bring and buy sale". Apologies if the cultural reference is not familiar to some. Will definitely rely on others posting pics from now on. The notable exceptions being...

New Releases for June 2018 - Armies and Enemies of Ancient Rome

Truth is, no one knows. There are arguments that a cohort, centuria and conterbernium within the same legion could have had different shield designs and colours and against a "foreign" enemy that didn't much look like you, this wouldn't have been too much of a problem. However, come a Civil...

    JJD Republican Romans

From the pictures it looks as though the new Roman figures could be sold in sets of three, which is ideal. I also noted from the Texas TS Show pictures that the horsetail plume has become separated from a figure. Now that would be something. With or without horsehair or indeed possibly a choice...

What else do you collect beside toy soldiers

These are the first nine in a commission of 80 Imperial Romans marching. All 28mm from the excellent Victrix range. Cost per figure in total? £7.50. The guy who paints these is just unbelievable in terms of VFM. 28mm is the future!

    African Wars

The 80th don't seem to get much of a look in when it comes to the AZW. Ntombe isn't really one of the "sexy" engagements of the campaign and perhaps as a consequence of the very speed with which the abaQulusi overwhelmed Morriarty's position it doesn't have too many pages devoted to it either...

    African Wars

This is perhaps the most accurate contemporary depiction of a NCO during the campaign (although the individual's facial features have been based on Bob Hoskins!) There is great attention-to-detail. The late artist, Richard Scollins, sought the advice of Ian Knight before producing this for...

ROM185-ROM194 Winter Legion XXX Ulpia Victrix

Egyptian Blue pigment was so expensive, one of the most expensive pigments, I don't believe the Roman Army would have ever looked like this. Not for me on this occasion.

What else do you collect beside toy soldiers

Re: What else you collect, beside toy soldiers I collect 28mm which technically aren't toy soldiers. Sent some AZW 24th figures from Black Tree Designs to be painted by a pro as a tester to see if I liked the style of painting and he sent me a pic today of the finished items bar a little...
