Thanks, Rob. I drew inspiration from Andy's dio while planning my own. In addition, the Web has endless period photos that offers endless layout possibilities. I really enjoyed the planning and creation of this piece. Mark

    Somewhere in Russia.....

Louis....Matt, thanks guys. My intention was to use all K&C figures but I could not find a sentry suitable enough for my diorama so, I went with Warpark. Their sentry in cold weather attire along with their guard shack and gate worked perfectly for my setting. Mark

Thanks, Matt! The dimensions of the MDF I used as the base is 24 x 21 inches. MDF, or medium density fiberboard, is what I like to use as a substrate. It's somewhat impervious to moisture and holds up really well compared to particle board. Mark

Using wood dowels, I made a working light post for the sentry position. The light fixture is a G Scale I purchased from Locomotive Joe, and I replaced the 12 volt light that came with it to a 3 volt chip I purchased from Evan Designs. The fake electrical cable coming from the bottom of the light...

I used Woodland Scenics brown undercoat and then set the wood hardstand in place. I then used WS Flex Paste to fill-in around the hardstand and create small snowdrifts around the base of the carved out hillside.
