Man thanks Walsingham for the info. about The Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. I did not know about having a battalion on Sword Beach. The D Company 1st Battalion, plus 2 platoons from B Company and a Royal Engineer party in their coup-de-main on the two bridges over the River...

    Sword Beach 6 June 1944

Impressive looking infantry. Great detail on the uniform. The East Yorkshire Regiment made a significant contribution to the D-Day first wave. The 2nd Battalion on Sword Beach and the 5th Battalion on Gold Beach. Did any other British regiment have more than one battalion committed in the...

Thanks for the updates. The Wellington in India series is one that I will be waiting for big time! The British Indian Army has up moved alongside my traditional areas of interest, I may also have temptation problems with that Königstiger. WW2 is well outside the time zones I buy/collect/paint...

    New 24th

Re communication with Britain's I made an enquiry with them at the end of Feb. Having read the negative comments was slightly apprehensive about getting a response. No need to worry, a speedy and clear answer came in from Ted. On the other hand no answer was received from a British dealership...

Can someone confirm homecast are Royal Scots Fusiliers

On second look somewhat bemused. The figure in middle is wearing a piper's plaid. Pipers wore the kilt, and this guy is carrying a rifle(?). The soldier with the axe, is he a pioneer? Pioneers usually had beard, or was it only the pioneer sergeant that was allowed to wear a full set? I suspect...

    Sharpe is Back 2021

Building on Walsingham's thread -- > Daniel Hagman -- is the ex poacher, best shot amongst Sharpe's chosen men. He was played by John Tams, a well established English folk singer, actor, and composer --> he was a major composer of the music for the stage play War Horse, later made into a film by...

    Highlanders in Afghanistan

Hello Benjamin, The site that I sent the link for was active just prior to posting the message on this thread. I "hate" it when site, that has been useful disappears. Try this one, if interested in military tartan. Not as many pictures with examples, but has a list of the various regiments...

    Highlanders in Afghanistan

Hello Benjamin -- - understandable, some of the regimental tartans worn by the old Scottish regiments are very similar. The Highland Light Infantry , from an Osprey publication, that you used in your original post, though a Highland regiment wore trews until 1947, Mac Kenzie No.5 tartan, while...

    Highlanders in Afghanistan

The link to the Team Miniature page shows a Gordon Highlander officer wearing trews. Officers often wore trews. I've attached images of both Gordon and King's Own Scottish Borderer trews for comparison. The Gordons trews are the ones on a hanger. The Borderers got authorisation to wear Leslie...

    UK + Continental Europe VAT

This topic has also been discussed on the Planet Figure site. A key point by my reading is the discussion around whether or not goods of a value less than £135 are currently exempt from Value Added Tax, or not. Buy figures from Europe for U.K. residents. Tax? | planetFigure | Miniatures This is...

In regards to a figure painting task I was working on contacted Bruce Bassett-Powell at Uniformology re NCO stripes on both arms or not. See below the answer I got back. "Initially in Napoleonic times, NCO rank was worn on the right sleeve only (It is thought that cost was a factor). In 1837...

    Gordon Highlander Display

Great layout. Looks as if The 92nd are getting fired up before taking on the enemy. The lack of colours probably appropriate as they would be withdrawn behind the firing lines before battle. (In the Waterloo film "Colonel Gordon" is portrayed by Rupert Davies, who ironically was well known on...
