118 bombing raids! Wow! USAAF planes were lucky if the made 25 . . . but they were doing daylight raids compared to the RAF nighttime sorties. Boaun Al

    Lead horses Escalado

I soak my lead figures in Simple Green. Every few days I scrub them down with a toothbrush (best not one you're still using!) and pick at stubborn areas with something sharp. May take a week or so. And, oh yes, you may want to use a nose mask. Good luck! Bosun Al

    Scale Link series....WW1

Scale Link produces some wonderful figures and vehicles, but they are not cheap and can be difficult for a beginner. Many of the vehicles have etched brass parts and many parts that can be a real challenge. Bosun Al

    Purchasing "job-Lots"

Instead of using tissue, I use wire cloth (window screening). Prior to sticking into the cavity, i attach a bit of thread or wire looped through the screening so that I can pull it tight when appling super glue. When the glue is dry, I pull out the wire/thread and apply putty. This makes a...

Damage from October 29th / 30th in Maine

Funny to see this as I've been reading Stephen Long's "Thirty Eight" . . . the story of timber lost in western New England as a result of the hurricane of that name. Have my own memories as I was 5 at the time and still remember the maple that fell over the sandbox I'd been playing in a couple...

    Spare arms for W Britains?

I don't suppose you'd ever want to cast your own? I'm sure that Prince August or Dutkins could supply molds with suitable arms. Bosun Al

    Purchasing "job-Lots"

While I don't buy many joblots, I've been converting toy soldiers for over 25 years and agree with Johnny that there's a lot of satisfaction from creating a figure from junk . . . particularly when you've added bits and bobs to come up with something new. Hope you continue to kitbash and post...

    Spare parts for old Lucotte

Call Ron at London Bridge Toy Soldiers . . . he has some Mignot parts that aren't listed in his catalog. Sorry but I don't have his phone number . . . he advertisse in several of the TS journals. He prefers to do business over the phone rather than by e-mail. (I've been working on some Mignot...

    Blue Stuff

I've not had much luck with "push" molds even though I've a lot of experience with silicone molds. As to the fat and skinny results, perhaps you're using different amounts of material when filling the mold or different pressure when closing the mold . . . can't say as you'll have to experiment...

I don't know if it helps, but I soak zinc and lead items in water and vinegar, then use a bristle brush with my Dremel before repainting. Bosun Al
