This represents a C-47 from the IX Troop Carrier Pathfinder Group. On 6 June 1944 at 0016 hrs this aircraft dropped Pathfinder Stick No. 19 from the 502nd PIR over Drop Zone C Normandy. All Unit markings have been painted over.
I got the urge to do a Firefly so here it is. Began with the excellent K&C version DD-135. Cut off front fenders and added stowage. Decals from the spare parts box so not accurate, just going for looks. Added .50 cal machine gun, not common on these but I did find a few pictures of them...
Thats the beauty of the US M113 in Vietnam, regulations were seldom followed. They went from totally void of any markings to some outrageous decorations. I tend to lean toward regulation with a little graffiti. I really look forward to some K&C US Vietnam riders, they will look great on this...
Thanks for commenting. I grew up by Fort Polk and my uncle took me to the base/fort often. I fell in love with the M113 but I never had to live in one so I'm sure you have a very different view of it! I have a light weathering of Vietnam "red clay" above the tracks but it doesn't show up well...
No its the CS acav turret. I cut off the shields with a dremel. Had to add a few things but the CS M113 is a great piece to start with. Hinged the crew hatch, added exhaust pipe, scratch-built ammo cans. Spare parts decals and a few other odds and ends. Thanks for compliment.
IMHO the K&C look like they fit the CS M113 better than the K&C version. I have the Aussie riders on order so I will post a pic of them on the CS version. I'm in the middle of converting a CS M113 into an Aussie track.
