    Final Assault on the Alamo

In the foreground, some defenders have moved a small gun loaded with shrapnel down from its ramp on the west wall... An officer leads the charge to break into the west wall houses, including Headquarters... Crockett looks down to the north wall to see how bad it is... ...he can't quite...

    Final Assault on the Alamo

Cazadores overrun the gate area... The fight rages on the east side... On the north wall, the press is on to get through or over the weakened wall... ...the casualties increase without getting into the fort... Everyone fires all of their ammunition as quickly as possible... Santa Anna...

    Final Assault on the Alamo

Some defenders have chosen to leave the south wall and try to get to the safety of the church... The south wall buildings are being overrun by select companies of Cazadores, the Mexican equivalent of Ranger or Sharpshooter units... Some of the cavalry has been ordered to approach the fort...

    Final Assault on the Alamo

At first, all is quiet... ...to the east, we hear some shouting and shooting... ...the merging companies of infantry approach the east wall... ...the cannons in the church and corral are loaded... ...half a company in one shot... ...they draw in close to avoid the cannons...

    Final Assault on the Alamo

The smoke is pulled-apart synthetic cotton pillow stuffing, sprinkled with debris and sand sometimes. Most of the figures are plastic, but these Conte and King & Country Alamo figures are great and I get as many as I can afford-- they come fully painted and cost 25-35 dollars apiece. I also...

    Final Assault on the Alamo

Thank you everyone. My plans are to go all around the fort this way; by the time of this scene, the Mexicans had already taken the SW angle and were taking rooms and killing defenders along the south wall-- more on that later.

Taking the initiative and turning the defenders' cannon into the plaza and against the stone buildings.

    Final Assault on the Alamo

The Mexican army storms into the Alamo plaza as the sun rises. Clearing the plaza of defenders. The north wall behind the first soldiers to gain the interior. The ruined adobe houses along the east wall that were fortified by a double palisade on the outside.

    Final Assault on the Alamo

It is nearly 5:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 6, 1836, across the river from the town of San Antonio de Bejar. The final assault on the Alamo has been timed to gain the cover and surprise of darkness without risking its confusion, the danger of friendly fire, the opportunity to flee to the rear...

Some analog structures and scenes I used to make my model. "Jacales" or shacks. Commerce Street, San Antonio. More jacales, San Antonio. Yaqui Indian recruits in the Mexican army. The Samuel Maverick house, built at the Alamo near the big pecan tree. Bleeding Kansas. R.C...

    Paul Lyon's Alamo

Some defenders were caught outside the walls trying to make it to the church. Sanctuary: the safety of the church sought by those caught outside. Trying to get a wounded defender to safety. Three views of the old mission kitchen, which may not have been standing during the battle, or fell...

    Paul Lyon's Alamo

I had the whole thing open in the middle for months so I can reach everything, and now have the perimeter up. You can really get a sense of why they couldn't defend that big a place with so few men. I want to put it all up in temporary mode and take longer shots. Also, I'd like to Photoshop...

    Paul Lyon's Alamo

I'm sorry to sound like a know-it-all. I've had bad experiences on the net with bitter arguments about the Alamo. Believe it or not, the worst fight I had with someone was about whether there was a doorway in the connecting wall running from the church to the convent! I really appreciate...

    Paul Lyon's Alamo

It's almost an oxymoron to use the words "uniform" and "Mexican Army" together. The two main assigned uniforms consisted of cotton trousers and fatigue smock with a blue wool "overcoat," with white or buff crossbelts, for the regular infantry; and blue or gray wool coat and trousers with black...

    Paul Lyon's Alamo

We have this big garage that was even bigger at first, then cut into two areas. The largest one is 20X 20, so I got that one. The other one is full of tools you can't find, and is about 10' across. Eventually I'd like to open it back up. I do live in a mansion, though-- at least by some...

    Paul Lyon's Alamo

Thank you for all of your encouraging comments. I have been working on the East Wall side of the model for about a year now, preparing to seal it up into the corner where I wont be able to reach it again (the whole platform will be 15 X 12 feet).
