    Has wbritains lost its way

Cost has largely kept me out of this hobby for the last year or so but I still log on to sites periodically to view what's being released. I must say I think Britains new matte AWI Indians look fantastic and if I was not going through a house renovation and mortgage top up they would certainly...

What eras do you collect and why?

I like 18th and early 19th Century British units mainly because I am fascinated with British history at that time period and I think the uniforms of the army then are pretty sharp (though impractical). I also like World War II, especially Afrika Korps. I know there have been discussions before...

I recently finished "Out of the Rat Trap:Desert Adventures with Rommel" by Max Reisch. This is a great read on what life was like in the Afrika Korps. The author was a well travelled German prior to the war so has interesting perspectives on many aspects of the conflict. From a toy soldier...

The Increasing Cost of Toy Soldier Armor: A Different Perspective.

Due to cost factors I recently took up plastic kit building. So far I have only built a Tamiya DAK Kubelwagen and BMW motorcycle with sidecar. I also have plans for a Steyr truck, a 251/17 half track and a couple of armoured cars. I really wanted to purchase some K&C armour but the price is...

    Stalingrad 1942-43

Amazing photos. Possibly the best on the forum. The artillery group is the best. It honestly looks so real.

Looking to get into the hobby

Welcome to a fun hobby! I like Britains for 18th Century especially gloss. I also like Tradition for gloss. Tradition are also good if you want to assemble and paint. I also have a small K&C collection of WWII (which I think they excel in). I have slowed down a bit in the last couple of years as...

Message of Support - and Get Well soon Buddy to Desertkiwi - Hurt on duty

Gee I haven't logged in for a while and saw this. I remember reading about this awful incident in the newspaper last month but had no idea of a very loose connection. I hope recovery is going well and I and my family are greatful to police like you keeping the streets safe.

Is the ecomony hurting your collecting choices???

I don't know if it is the economy but I certainly have a price point and the new releases from most brands have exceeded it. In the last year most of my purchases have been off ebay. I have also bought brand new kits from Tradition. Although I mainly collect 18 century Britains I also have some...

Bit of dark humour and reality

True true. I guess wherever one believes they will be spending eternity it is not likely to be surrounded by our metal men.Still I like to think that my little one's little ones will one day treasure the little men their grand parents painted.

    Rugby World Cup Opening Ceremony

I have been really impressed with the standard of rugby in the cup so far. There was a time when too many of the RWC games of the past had been one sided affairs. Great to see more balance in the games. It looks like the distance between the rugby powers and minnows is not as great as it once was.

    Rugby World Cup Opening Ceremony

I also didn't like the English jersey. It seemed so wrong. However I don't restrict my dislike just to this jersey. As rugby has become professional over the last 15 years this is one of the prices paid. Growing up with rugby in the 70s and 80s there was just one strip each team had and no body...

Why do we collect the series that we do?

It's interesting reading everyone's posts here. I think it is evident that most have a real interest in certain parts of history. As a kid I was like many others of my generation and had numerous WWII soldiers and kits. As I grew older I became really interested in history and less interested in...

Bit of dark humour and reality

A little dark yes, but I do find that as I get older mortality does seem more apparent. My wife understands the value of them and I am sure she will keep the ones she likes. My daughter is young so I think she would like to take them all into the sandpit. An actual fear I have is that I will our...

What are the Forum members reading

I have just finished reading Dunkirk: The Men They Left Behind by Sean Longden. An excellent read. Paints a great picture of the rear guard action which allowed so many to escape. Also the miserable POW life of the 40,000 or so who were captured, only to return years later almost forgotten.

Interesting News from the Detroit Area

Re: The Sad Demise of the Michigan Toy Soldier Company I thought this really was sad. It was the first time I had seen anything in the media in NZ about Toy Soldiers and it was unfortunately for the wrong reasons. I have not purchased from this company before but had periodically looked at...

    FIW Collection

Yes thanks so much for the photos. If I give in to temptation I just may make a purchase or 2. What was your personal impression of their quality given that you were at the show Jeff? Michael

    FIW Collection

I haven't collected Frontline before but I noticed they recently but out a FIW line. They look great and there are some very unique sets. Has any purchased any of these? I would love to see some pics if possible.
