I acquired the following Guards & Garrisons set: Charles Gerard's Bluecoat Regiment. I found information about this regiment, but after a search on the net I haven't found any mention of the maker Guards & Garrisons. I would appreciate any information anyone can provide about this company.

Hi, Simos!

Guards & Garrisons was a brand made by John Paxton Sheriff. He was inspired to use that name from a communication from King Charles II, I think it was, in which the King referred to, "our guards and garrisons."

I can't remember his other brands, but if you search the forum for his name, you'll find at least one other thread where we talked about his toy soldiers. I know we talked about him, and there should be pictures of some of his figures in that thread.

Sheriff also wrote a book called. "Modelling Toy Soldiers". In it, he describes the process to make a figure from scratch and then cast it. Here's one link

I have a small collection of his 18th century toy soldiers, mostly grenadiers. I also have a Horse Grenadier that he did, a mounted figure, but in need of repair. The horse's head broke off at some point in the past, and I haven't gotten around to replacing it. I like them-they have a certain charm that you get with old toy soldiers.

If you can, post some pictures, please!

Prost!
Brad

Here are some photos of the set I have. No number just a certificate stating the number made and what it is. Thanks for the information. Houston just had a 96" water main break and parts of the city are flooding and large part of the city is without water. Go figure?

Small world. I have this exact set that I purchased many, many years ago at the Annapolis Toy Soldier Show. It is the only set by this maker that I have. It is a lovely set and I wish I had been able to get other sets. -- Al

I think they are super sculpts. Not too fussy and if they were available in bulk I would be sorely tempted to switch my allegiance from the 7 YW. Great paint jobs ..simple , clean almost exemplary toy soldier style but with character

I am very interested to find find out that there are 18 th century figures which I did not know about. I d love too see them as well. Just gotta love them glossies !
