Hi Guys,

Helen (K&C’s Managing Director) and yours truly just got back from four great days in Singapore last night.

I thought I’d take this opportunity to say a heartfelt thanks to all those who made this visit so memorable and enjoyable…

To Mike Tong and Daniel from the “The Soldier’s Story” muchos gracias for inviting us and organizing such a terrific first “official” meet ‘n’ greet in Singapore on Friday night – We began just after 6pm as the collectors arrived and went on till almost 11pm when the last left!

Tons of great feedback, questions, suggestions and ideas that could (and just might) keep myself and the K&C team busy for the next 18 months!!!

Thanks also to the collectors who again met up with Helen and myself at Mike’s “Soldier’s Story” shop on the following day. I really enjoyed the opportunity to meet and talk individually with many of the Singapore guys there.

A special thankyou to fellow “Treefroggers’ in attendance on both days and especially to Chris Tay for reporting the event on the Forum –Thanks again Chris.

Finally a word or two about the “Lion City” itself…Singapore is really one of the seven wonders of the modern world. It’s clean, safe, exciting and very, very green! I have never, ever seen so many trees, gardens, flowers and parks in among an urban area that also boasts some of the most original and futuristic high rise architecture to be found anywhere in the world – east or west.

Not forgotten is the past…Singapore has retained a wealth of historical buildings –both British Colonial and Chinese. And they’ve managed to blend it all into a unique vision of what a city can be and, I believe, should be.

Much as I love my adopted home of Hong Kong there is an awful lot HK could learn from Singapore…All in all I would heartily recommend anyone to visit – It will blow you away.

And I’ve not even mentioned the people – fun, friendly and hard-working…No beggars, no pan-handlers and no yobboes. Singapore knows how to deal with the more unruly elements of society – corporal punishment for crimes of violence and vandalism…Capital Punishment for drug dealers…and zero tolerance of drug taking and public intoxication.

Result : A clean, safe and well-ordered society that is prospering and really going places.

Plus great food…another unique blend of Chinese, Malay and Indian – all of it goes great with a Tiger Beer…or a “Singapore Sling” .

Very best wishes and thankyou again Singapore…I’m already looking forward to my next visit!

Likewise it was a real pleasure meeting with you, Helen, Mike and Daniel. Hoping to see you in these parts again soon.

Will K&C now consider putting out a Streets of Hong Kong subrange showcasing the various ethnicity under the British Asian Commonwealth, in the same time period ... perhaps best described as the Streets of The Settlements ( as in The Straights Settlements ). {sm4}

Best wishes

Perhaps a "Streets of old Singapore" series could be in order hey OD!

Great post Andy and I totally agree with what you say about Singapore. My parents used to take me there when I was a little tacker and I loved the old charm of Singapore and it's historical buildings. The place has changed dramatically since those days though and unfortunately much of old Singapore is now gone, but there is still a charm about the place and as Andy has said, it's safe, clean, modern and efficient and you don't get much crime or riff raff around the place. I also love Changi Airport and I consider it one of the best, if not best airports in the world. I travel through Singapore a lot and maybe next year I can coincide a trip somewhere around the next Singapore dinner! {sm3}

Back in early 2009 I became friends with "Glossman" in Singapore via an eBay sale to him. He got me to become an active member of the Treefrog Treasures Forum. At that time I did not realize that there were more than a few members at the Forum from the Republic of Singapore. Does anyone know how many?
