Great photos of King tiger #312.

I also have an FOV 1/16 King Tiger which has some parts that came loose in the turret----do you know how to remove the upper turret from the turret basket so I can reattach the loose parts?

Thanks for any help on this.

Inside the rear turret hatch is a latch you have to carefully push to release the basket from the turret. But be very careful I have discovered that the plastic on these models is very brittle and will snap with very little pressure. I have had to reattach almost all of the spare track hangars due to this. Thanks for the compliment.

Thanks for the reply.
I have more questions:

1. Are you referring to the rectangular escape hatch on the rear of the turret?
2. If so, where is the latch and in what direction do you push it?

kt1.jpgkt2.jpgkt3.jpgHere are some pictures. Kinda hard pushing the tabs and lifting at the same time. Just be careful those tabs can snap off.

I pushed the two tabs forward towards the turret front with my thumbs as hard as I could, but they wouldn't budge and was worried I might break something, so I have two more questions.

1. Is pushing the tabs forward the only motion that is supposed to loosen them? ,,,,or is there a second, simultaneous step that goes along with moving the tabs forward?

2. I was thinking about using a hairdryer to heat the two tabs and maybe loosening them, so they would be easier to move forward. Would the heat damage the paint?

Its tight. You push the tabs and push down on the turret floor at the same time. I know what you mean, it feels like the tabs will break. One of mine did. I guess warming it up may help, I never tried that. I think the paint could stand hairdryer heat but not heatgun. Its difficult and after you get it off you dread putting it back together. But this tank is so cool with all the detail I take mine completely apart and display it sometimes. Glad i got one when they first came out, saw one on ebay starting at $1499.99! Keep trying it'll come off.

I tried to remove the basket by heating the tabs and pushing them, but I was worried I might break off the spare-tread pegs on the side of the turret so I gave up.
I also tried to unscrew the two screws on the bottom of the turret in front of the basket to see if it would loosen the basket in the front, but only one screw would come out.

The critical part is the coaxial machine gun which fell off the side of the cannon. The machine gun arm has a T-shaped peg which fits into a T-shaped slot on the side of the cannon. On Sunday, I spent over an hour unsuccessfully trying to slide the machine gun into place through the basket. Today, after about 30 minutes, I finally got the T-peg over the T-slot and was trying to push the machine gun in to make sure the T-peg was firmly in the T-slot-----and the machine gun arm with the T-peg broke off.

So, I glued the arm back on, and now that I know that I might be able to re-attach the machine gun without removing the basket from the turret, I'm going to try to slide the machine gun back in tomorrow.

After seven months, I finally managed to re-attach the various loose parts in the turret. I never could remove the basket from the turret, so I had to reattach the parts through the openings in the basket which took many attempts and a lot of patience. The parts fell off because FOV had used very little glue on the pegs to attach them in the factory, but I corrected that.

The King Tiger is whole again. :)

Thanks for all the help.:salute::

Glad you got it all sorted out. These things are well worth the effort. They dominate the shelf.

I have the Dragon 1/72 King Tiger 312 (with the white on the front of the tank) and got a pretty good built 1/35 King Tiger 312 on ebay a few years ago.
In reference to your custom FOV 1/16 King Tiger 312, a good reference book on 312 and other SS King Tigers of Jochen Peiper are covered really well in Gregory Walden's TIGERS IN THE ARDENNES. It features the King Tigers, what happened to them in the Battle of the Bulge, their paint schemes, etc.

Walden says about 312, "knocked out by a tank destroyer near Geronne...probably around 30 December during the 1st SS Panzer attacks against Bastogne.
Description: probably brush, no light and shadow pattern dots visible, turret numbers appear to be the same light shade as 332. Part of the hull appears to have a coat of whitewash paint. Other details not visible. Seen in post-battle photographs."

I try to keep up with how much the FOV 1/16 King Tigers sell for on ebay, and the most expensive was $2,500.00 plus $131.11 shipping back in July, 2017.

You know your King Tiger tanks! Thanks for the info on 312. I did find info on the web about it. I will check on that book. I'm currently working on customizing the 1/16 Tiger I but haven't decided on paint scheme. That's why I love the Forces of Valor vehicles. They are robust and lend themselves to modification. My other area is converting the 1/32 M901 ITV into numerous versions of the M113 with full interiors.
