Interesting programme on TV yesterday. Narrated by Michael Palin it dealt with the events of the last day of WW1 up to 11am when the Armistice came into effect. Some of the tales were horrendous, one man killed 2 minutes before the cease fire, an American commander who ordered a full out attack on a heavily defended town because there was bathing facilities there!! Over 800 casualties incurred because of this idiot when they could have just walked in an hour later. His men must have loved him. One of the most poignant scenes was of a cemetary at Mons. In one row was the graves of four men killed on the last day, in the row in front were the graves of three men killed on the first day. Very moving programme.
