Here is my contribution to the commemoration of Armistice Day ..... part of my shelf display of my relatives who have served.
This shows my Uncle Jack being farewelled by my grandmother in 1917 as he headed off to France.
He was part of the 'last big push' at the Battle of Amiens on 9th August 1918.
Unfortunately, he badly wounded that day when he stopped for a late lunch in a captured German trench and succumbed to his wounds the next day.
He is buried in a cemetery in Villers Bretonneux, a place I have visited to pay homage to this 18 yo kid from Fremantle.
