Yesterday was the 150th anniversary of the 54th Mass volunteer infantry regiment attack on Battery Wagner in Charleston SC. A few years back after being excited by the movie Glory, I fabricated this piece from metal military miniatures cast by Paul Clark of Australia. Lot of modifications to piece them together. After a prime coat, I painted them in artist oils. I made the flag from brass sheet and also painted in artist oils. Later I painted a bust of SGT William Carney, the first African-American to be awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his actions at Battery Wagner. Also painted in artist oils over and acrylic under coat, and mounted on an antique table lamp base. My tribute to the 54th!
