Dear all, welcome to this week's news update. I am pleased to inform you that our latest project is now ready for unveiling in the form of the M1A1 155mm howitzer. The howitzer will be a mixture of metal and resin parts to allow maximum accuracy and durability.

The M1 howitzer was introduced in 1942 to the US army and is one of the most successful artillery pieces to have ever been manufactured with some still in service to this day, a testament to its durability and accuracy.

There will be TG crews for WW2, Korea and Indochina/Vietnam.

Enjoy the pictures and thank you for your support. A big thank you to Mark Holoboski for his research on this project and also to John O'Brien for his recent technical input.

Now, something a little different from collecting toy soldiers:
Our co-founder Blake Reade is competing in a sponsored charity run at the ASICS 10 Kilometre run for Young Children & People Come First (YPACF), on the 10th July in London.
Your support is kindly requested if you have a few seconds to read and contribute to a great cause. If everyone here who receives this newsletter donated $1 we would raise over $2000 for this great charity. Here is a little bit of blurb about the charity:YPACF gives a home to young people (aged 16-25) who are leaving care or who are homeless.
We currently have three houses in West Berkshire; Cornerstone, Rebecca House and Hope House here in the UK.
All our young residents are provided with personalised support in a family environment, helping them to develop life skills such as cooking on a budget and money management, as well as recreational activities with other residents and support getting into education, training or work.
Our residents have typically experienced varying challenges during their childhood. We provide them with a stable home, emotional support and practical help during this crucial time as they move into independent adulthood.
With 26% of care leavers going on to experience homelessness the support we provide is vital and we rely on the generous support of amazing supporters.

That's all for this week's news guys, we will be in touch end of this week (hopefully) or possibly next week with news of some new aircraft. This is our sea shipment that has been delayed something like six weeks, but as they say, all good things come to those who wait.

Sorry we should have mentioned, at the moment there are 6 x crew for the Korean war variant and 4 for the WW2/Indochina version, there will be further additions along the line.

OUTSTANDING NEWS!

When and which sets first?

I've been waiting for this version of the 155mm for a long time.

Thank you,

Carlos

Korea first, other versions afterwards. We are hoping to have samples to show in London on 25th June.

This will make a lot of people happy and a few unhappy, first will order it and receive, while the second will be too late and miss out.

What an iconic piece of artillery. My first miniature M1A1 was part of a small Marx Battlefield set (Bravo Squad from 1977) that I carried everywhere as a kid. I tried reconstructing before I got into 1:30 scale toy soldiers several years ago.

Fun stuff! Keep up the awesome pieces TG.

EDIT: I hope it is haulable with TC's Dodge WC 51/52.

Question:

Which vehicles towed this howitzer during WWII, Korean War and the Vietnam War?

Thanks,

Carlos

That's a good question, Carlos. Was trying to figure it out myself. From what I've read, the prime mover was the M5 High Speed Tractor (HST), although I did stumble upon a picture of a GMC CCKW 2-1/2 Ton 6x6 Cargo Truck pulling a 155mm through the mud in Burma (1945). I'm going to have to settle for a Dodge 3/4 Ton until TG offers an M5 HST or larger truck.
^&grin
What do you think, can we make this one work? {sm4}

Good luck in pulling that BIG gun with such a small truck.

The specifications state that it is 5800 kgs !!!

It would be OK to move it around on the Gun Park at Base, but not in the field.

This is pic from WW2 showing a tracked vehicle towing the gun.

Is that a M5 or M4 High Speed tractor pictured?

Also, you think the KC Diamond T truck could be legitimately picture towing this howitzer?

Just wondering.

Yes, it would be suitable, well that's what Wikipedia says ....

The basic cargo model was a prime mover used to tow the 155 mm howitzer M1 and transport the gun crew, equipment, and ammunition.

So I'm sure if that truck is made it can be used for many other campaigns and armies since WW2

I hope that helps?

I would settle for a Deuce and a half towing it, it is about time we have another one of these classic trucks anyway and TGM could do so many versions of the truck as well, not just for the gun but the Red Ball Express, Korea, Vietnam. Would be a versatile release.

Agree on the truck, never mind pulling it, it would have been very 'squeaky bum' time when braking in a small tuck with that gun behind you.

I remember seeing a picture of being towed by a bulldozer in the pacific.

Interesting to see the crew, would like one for WW2 winter, as the Battle of the Bulge has been neglected in recent years releases. Plus the opportunity to be able to enough diorama pieces, shells, ammo boxes, etc to make a dio.

Think it will be a great addition to many peoples collections.

I took this photo at the 2017 War & Peace show.

Great photo Jeff, well done ! :salute::

Be nice if TG were to do a US Army Vietnam war crew version in same scale as K&C's range. I think TG scored an own goal by using a smaller scale for the figures and Vehicles they have released in that range, but they could always change the scale as they did with their Napoleonic range.
Get a lot of takers for that, if they were to release a US Army Vietnam war crew I'd say, I'd buy it and think many other Vietnam war collectors would too !
Still as it is I look forward to seeing the French Indochina version.

155mm Howitzer Prime Movers... 7-Ton Mack Truck and the Diamond Truck 968. Both were also used to tow the 155mm Long Tom before the M6 and M5 were dispatched to the battlefield.
