Commemorations about the 1st WW have started: The picture shows some typical Belgian uniforms of WWI in the streets of the small village of Steenstraete to commemorate the 1st German gas attack on the 15th of April 1915.After the gas attack that mainly struck the British Commonwealth troops ( Canadians) The Germans broke through and advanced rapidly. The Belgians - positioned on their left flank - on their turn attacked the German troops and stopped the advance . The Germans had to retreat and gained no territorial advance ( If the attack had succeeded they would have pushed through to reach the sea.)
