This is for collectors who have interest in 18th century warfare.Which holds your interest the most.Mine (can anyone guess :wink2:) is the French & indian War and the Old Northwest Wars.

Mine are Frederick the Great's wars (War of the Austrian Succession, or First Silesian War, and the Seven Year's War, sometimes called the Second Silesian War), and the American Revolution. I am becoming more interested in the French and Indian War, too, because you really can't separate it from the fighting in Europe, or from the fighting in India, for that matter.

Prost!
Brad

I'm partial to the Seven Years War, particularly the campaign to capture Quebec in 1759, and the American War of Independence. I have always been fascinated by the actions of the Rangers and other Loyalist militia units during the war.
Cheers,
Brendan

Like Brad, I'm a follower of these wars, but I'm also interested in the French Revolutionary Wars, including the rise of Napoleon Bonaparte, and at a lesser degree the wars in North America.

Its to brightly coloured uniforms and soldiers in line !

Great pics! Are these all ones that you have painted yourself?

Afternoon folks .... I am an easy spot.

With King and Country it is ALL American Revolution for that era.
With John Jenkins Designs it is ALL French and Indian wars 95% with RSF sets (Indians).

If I am permitted a bit of give-or-take (of 12 years) the War of 1812 is my interest.

One of my areas of historical interest has always been the seven years war in India......Clive of India......Plassey.......Buxar ......as the East India Company pushed out the French and started a domino reaction of Indian states falling under their thrall. Surprised that John Jenkins hasn't tested out a range as both colorful ( war elephants, native armies etc) and a flip side to the FIW ranges. It's a bit like WW2 where the hobby focuses heavily on western front rather than eastern front, except I don't know of any modern matte producer who has wandered into 18th century India at all. would also like to see an Indian Mutiny range , but as that's 60 years beyond this threads timeframe, probably for another thread.

Still on an Asian theme for 18th century, during the 7 years war the British also occupied Manila for a couple of years on expedition from India. ....... So there's a ready made " expansion range" for an Indian 7 years war scenario !

Best to all from Manila.

I think it's coming this year!

It'll be interesting to see if JJD expands into India. Lots of potential subject matter to cover.

I'm not sure if that's the right word. "Thrall" is a slave and the connotes a state of slavery. I don't think the company can be said to have promulgated a state of slavery in India.

Prost!

Hi NY,
that's an intriguing comment and sounds like some good source info may be there . On a scale of 1 -10
how likely do you think it is we will see an 18th century indian range this year ?

hi Brad,
Agree with u on the slavery point.
Re "thrall" I wasn't using it in the literal Anglo-Saxon bondage sense of "slave" , although the dictionary does define it primarily as that, but in the looser sense of " in control of / under the spell of." I
See the British expansion as initially symbiotic: the local maharaja sees the east India company emerging as the pre-eminent military player in Bengal in the 1750s and a serious player in the south also - he signs up a subsidiary treaty to take a resident and a local British garrison at his cost, and in return he gets protection against the local big powers ( Maratha confederacy in center/north; Mysore in south). The British get free trade rights and tax exemption plus their military costs covered. All sounds ok at the outset , although there's always an element of " protection racket" about the Brits, but where it goes off track is the local indian state gradually gets its finances undermined and local power structures subverted.......... Invariably ends in annexation either with or without a battle. So it's " thrall " in the sense of the Brits are "a dangerous spell" to fall under that I had in mind That's my personal take on 18th century India anyway. One of my favorite periods. Regards

John is a very busy man but I believe this new series is something he really wants to get out. Myself and others have told him that this new range should be a good seller.......very colorful and exotic as you pointed out.......native uniforms, elephants, cavalry and interesting artillery. No guarantees but I would say upwards of 7 or 8 on the wishlist scale for this year. Wouldn't a JJD elephant be amazing!

Thanks for the feedback NY,
At 7-8 I'm getting my bank balance ready to take another bashing. And I still have about half the jacobites to go.........another busy year.

While on the subject of John, just wanted to say what a great customer service experience I had recently. I travel through Hong Kong on business 2 or 3 times a year from Manila and have picked up some pieces there at my office after ordering from JJD . Recently a package got delayed by the student protests disrupting downtown postal service, and John got a replacement to me delivered by hand by one of his team at my hotel room the hour before I was due to head out to the airport. Can't beat that ! Great !
Andrew
