1941 (1979) (1 Viewer)

I saw this one again after 30 years. Watch the extras on how they made the film. Watch for the cameo roles. John Wayne and Charleton Heston turned down the role of General Stillwell.

Always kinda liked this show, mainly for Belushi and his P-40. Wayne was very ill at the time this was being filmed, probably the main reason for refusal. Wasn't really his type of role, though. If he had been able to do it, it would have gone down as his last film. Not as appropriate as "The Shootist", eh? -- lancer

Besides, Robert Stack looked somewhat like Vinegar Joe Stillwell in general build and face.

I liked the use of an M3 medium for the film. I think the one used in the film was actually an M3 mocked up on an M7 "Priest" running gear. There were one or two Priests in one of the Hollywood rental companies in the 60's -70's.

There were two M-7 priests that were used in The Rat Patrol series from the '70's. Robert Stack played a great Stillwell. Who knew that he could do comedy. 1941 was done a year before Airplane. My favorite parts were Christopher Lee and Tashiro Mifune talking to each other in their respective languages.

A great movie!

I also remember when Revell took the opportunity to re-box their 1/32 P-40E kit and capitalize on the movie's publicity. Same kit, but you had the movie poster art on the box cover. And finally, their classic 2-piece pilot figure actually looked like the subject :D

Prost!
