I see we are getting close to that number but I've also notice there are quite a few that haven't posted in a long time. Some people don't post hardly at all, some have quit the hobby and a few have probably passed on.There should be some way to keep yourself as an active member but take off those who are no longer members.Maybe there could be some kind of icon to click on every two years or something like that. For those who have quit the hobby but come back to it they could always rejoin.

Interesting you bring this up. I was of the same mind and during the Skins football game today, I did some counting. Out of the current listed membership, 556 have not even visited the sight since before Jan.1, 2009. Of these, 151 haven't visited since before Jan.1, 2007. That is a LOT of deadwood on the membership rolls. 556 "members" who haven't even visited, much less posted, in at least 2 years. A purge is a good idea, if it is practical. -- Al

The admins could purge anyone whose account has been dormant for a specific interval.

This comes up every time we hit some round number; you'll find we discussed this back at the millenium mark, and I think again at 1500. They probably talked about it at 500, too, though that was before my time. It's interesting, but still kind of a "meh" issue.

Prost!

There are also alot that signup just to try and spam us. I have noted at least half a dozen within the last couple of weeks.

2000 members? There may be 2000 names but over 25% are deadwood that are just taking up names and space. Membership is probably closer to 1400 and frequent posters far fewer than that. It's purge time. -- Al

Well we gained another one but lost 7:confused:Has the purge begun?

What happened, how did the total go down? Were the spamers found out and purged? -- Al

What do the spammers gain by joining the forum and what do they do anyway?

Access to email, in varying degrees, of course, from website to website, depending on how the page is set up as far as security and user access goes. It's just like fishing with a net--cast it out as broadly as possible and you'll catch something.

Hi Marco,
I wouldn't exactly call it a purge. While I don't plan to delete accounts based on activity, if I notice an obvious spammer (they usually have a link for something unrelated to the toy soldier hobby in their signature) I either ban or delete them. I just happened to have some time this week to check out the list of registrations from the past few months and pruned out a bunch.
All forums have a core of very active members with the rest of the members varying in their participation and I have no plans to cull the herd just because they haven't posted in x amount of time (it would be very disruptive to the threads where they've posted for one thing and a tedious waste of work time on my part). I frequently get requests for login info from people who have been inactive and want to get involved again, so leaving things in place for them to return makes the most sense to me at this time. I might feel differently at 4000 or 5000 members but for now this is working.
Lastly, there is no easy way to browse through profile to ferret out spammers so if forum members happen to notice questionable accounts pushing a product (such as wedding favors and perfume for two examples of the ones I booted recently) please let a mod know. We appreciate members taking ownership of the board and being proactive about these things.
Happy collecting!

I'll take the light cavalry and cut off their retreat! We will surround them and leave no survivors! :D

I love that idea! Good hunting, sir! Spammers, e-mail hackers, ect. are some of the very few people I absolutely can't stand and have no patience with. I'm sure I'm not the only one....
