Hi

just seen the latest from Airfix and their planned re-issues for 2010 IN 1/32nd scale, (4 lots this time round):

1. A02704 RUSSIAN INFANTRY WW2
2. A02709 AUSTRALIAN INFANTRY WW2
3. A02710 BRITISH INFANTRY SUPPORT GROUP WW2
4. A02713 GERMAN MOUNTAIN TROOPS

No doubt in the new plastic which I think is better and it means no more flaking paint on rifle ends/tips.

With the reissued sets for 2009 what a great addition. I would imagine that the Gurkhas will follow at some stage. I have read that Airfix are going to make some new tooling for 1/72nd WW2 figures for the first time in many many years so they may do the same for 1/32nd too?

Maybe you could work out the missing 1/32nd sets by checking the A0.... serial set numbers.

Any comments....

Off the top of my head, in the WWII series that would leave, as you say, the Gurkhas, and the Japanese Infantry from the original moulds.

For painting, I agree, the new plastic is much better, but my kids have got some of the new sets and the weapon ends have snapped on a few, so not as robust for playing with. Hopefully see some new sets as well.

Hi Simon

the missing nos between A02701 (Brit Paras) & A02718 (Brit Inf ww2) not already issued 2009 /allocated for 2010 are:
A02706
A02714
A02715
A02716
A02717

this is x 5 no.s unallocated, but after checking there are historically x 3 Airfix 1/32nd scale WW2 sets outstanding - Gurkhas, Japanese and Italians, so not sure what the other x 2 sets will be - possibly the no.s continue above
A02718 and cover the Waterloo and Wild West and Mediaeval sets??

Ah, forgot about the Italians!

I've checked to see if the numbers bare any relation to the original set numbers, but they appear not to.

I've never sen the Italian Infantry rereleased, by CTS or anyone else, so I'm not sure if Airfix / Hornby have found the molds for these.

You've also got the Space figures, Footballers and the 5 'modern' sets of German, British, US / NATO, Russians and SAS.

I guess we'll have to wait and see!

Hi Simon

this plastic is quite bendy and can be manipulated with pliers to animate the poses. I have just been working on some British Infantry and have altered head positions and modified standing poses into runing poses. This created another 9 different postures - I will have to try the other sets to see what else can be manipulated.

That sounds interesting. I'll have to get the tools out and have a stab at some amateur surgery. :)

Hi Simon

move the limb/head slowly and steadily with the pliers/grips

Just heard about these today and that the plastic is different. Is it harder or what? How is it bendy? I liked the old ones, and the reissues.

Hi Jay

its not like rubber - but it will bend/articulate without snapping off like polystyrene would. Hard to describe really, but if you try them you will see what I mean, for example the British bren gunner standing in A02718 - if you cut the rear leg off (under the boot) base it can be re-fashioned upwards, bending at the knee and it makes the figure into a running pose and the body could also be leant forwards over the front leg to have the figure firing downwards maybe at a German trench position.

I will post some photos when the figures are painted/completed

thanks

I can't wait to get these. I had to throw away my 8th Army figures years ago after the dog chewed them up.

I just got my first set of GIs in the new plastic - not bad stuff. I tend to like the harder plastics - I wish Conte would have done his US paratroops in this kind of plastic.

For those that don't have a supplier, the revised Airfix figures were in stock at the Squadron Shop (www.squadron.com)

I had heard somewhere that the 1/32 Italian molds were damaged hence no reissues of those (and the reason that CTS went and made their own Italians). This "hearsay" goes back a few years to when CTS did indeed come out with Il Duce's forces in plastic.

Will these new Airfix do the hot water bending? I for one need to restock all my Airfix, they are all reissues.:)

hi just got the commandos and brit infantry, they are a hard plastic very close i think to the plastic used with the Emhar ww1 sets.all the gun tips needed to be straightened by hand very carefully or they would of snapped off.I didn't try the hot and cold water trick on them.with the Brit infantry i had all 7 poses. With the commandos i had 6 poses and was missing the officer!which was disappointing, has anyone else had the officer in their sets????
i was wondering if it was hit and miss with what poses are in each box or batch?
i reckon they will be nice to paint.
regards simo

Hi
the tips are easily straightened and its the paint adhesion that outweighs this issue. I havent undercoated mine (which I normally always do) as it doesnt seem necessary on this type of plastic thus saving time, materials and effort . It allows figures to be painted up a lot sooner.

Thats a shame about the officer i think it might be hit and miss with these sets .
But thats ok plenty of CTS recast out there...never did get a set of Commandos.
Hope to se yours painted Simo,

yea one day rob still working on acw and ffl and arabs, trying to get some big armies painted up,its hard to even get any undercoating done at the moment its 43degrees outside.
cheers simo

Same here paint dry's to fast on the brush even at night.
And with the AirCon cranking away the cold Air from that makes it even harder.
Need to go mow the lawn in 40+ Degrees
