2013 Anzac Day Dawn Commemorative Service

Date: 25 April 2013
Time: 6:30am (we ask guests to arrive by 6.15am)
Venue: Kranji War Memorial Cemetery
Woodlands Road

On Thursday 25 April 2013, the Australian and New Zealand communities in Singapore will join others around the world in observing Anzac Day. This national day of remembrance, shared by Australia and New Zealand, has its origins in World War I, when the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (the ANZACs) landed at Gallipoli, Turkey in support of the allied force drawn also from Britain, India and France. While the operation was to end in failure for the allies and great loss of life on all sides, for the Anzac nations it was to become the genesis for our national day of remembrance. Today the occasion has grown to recognise those that have served in our armed forces along with all who have made sacrifices in conflict.

The High Commissions of Australia and New Zealand invite you to join us at an Anzac Day with a Dawn Service at Kranji War Memorial Cemetery. The service, with symbolic links to the dawn landings at Gallipoli, will be followed by a traditional Gunfire Breakfast at Kranji, again symbolic of the last breakfast before facing the enemy in battle.

The service will commence at precisely 6.30am, and we ask guests to arrive by 6.15am.

Guided tours of the Kranji War Memorial Cemetery will be held at the conclusion of the service.

Please note that parking is extremely limited and travel by taxi may be preferable.
