Here is the new flyer for the 2015 W. Britain Symposium.
We are very pleased to announce that the 2nd Annual W. Britain Model Figure Symposium will continue to be held in historic Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. We are returning to the Wyndham Gettysburg for this years Symposium. Our guest speakers this year include Robert Bradley
(Museum of Alabama), Dr.Craig Sheldon (Auburn University), Rick Musselman (Carriage Hill Museum, Ohio), and Les Jensen (West Point Museum) as well as Kenneth Osen, W. Britain General Manager. Kevin Hampton (Wisconsin Veterans Museum) will guide the Sunday Battlefield Tour.
This year we are expanding the symposium with the addition of a Friday pre-symposium scenic diorama workshop from Hudson & Allen Studio.
The Friday night reception will be held at For The Historian in downtown Gettysburg. Beverages, hors d'oeuvres and desserts will be served from 7pm to 9 pm. Come join us and meet your fellow collectors and historians!
Saturday will be a full day of informational seminars by some of the country’s leading historians with presentations on subjects ranging from
18th century Native Americans, Confederate uniforms, flags and Army Rations.
The subjects include:
*An Army Travls On Its’ Stomach by Rick Musselman.
*Playing Both sides: Native Americans and their interaction with both
the French And British in the 18th Century by Dr. Craig Sheldon.
*What Johnny Reb Wore: A Look at Confederate Uniforms by Les Jensen.
*Tattered Banners: Alabama's Civil War Flags by Robert Bradley.
A full lunch will be served between the morning and afternoon seminars. The U.S. W. Britain Evening Banquet will feature W. Britain General Manager Kenneth Osen presenting The Evolution of the Uniform: the Who, What & Why of Dressing an Army as well as a question and answer session about W. Britains afterwards.
Saturday evening will include a silent auction of several rare pre-production samples and one-of-a-kind conversions. A special American Civil
War Collectors Club figure, Sergeant Patrick O’Connor of the 15th Alabama Infantry will be given out to those attending the banquet. The weekend will be wrapped up on Sunday morning with your choice of a hands-on figure painting workshop with W. Britain Master Painter, Chip
Rembert, or a guided battlefield tour with Kevin Hampton.
There are several levels of participation offered for the weekend giving you the flexibility to register for whatever your schedule and interest permits. New sets and dioramas will be on display throughout the weekend in the various event areas. So, come join us for a weekend full of expert information, camaraderie and Toy Soldiers!
EVENT FIGURE:This years event figure is 1st Sergeant Patrick O’Connor, 15th Alabama Infantry. O’Connor, an Irish immigrant living in Eufaula, Alabama. He was in an amazing number of engagements and was only25 years old when he fought heroically at the Battle of Gettysburg. He was later promoted to Lieutenant and was killed in the fierce fighting at Cold harbor in 1864.
SPECIAL FRIDAY PRE-SYMPOSIUM SCENIC DIORAMA WORKSHOP! This all-day workshop will allow you to make a 22” by 14”shelf diorama of a section of Little Round Top. This class will be a hands-on tutorial in scenery from Hudson & Allen Studio’s Ken & Ericka Osen. All supplies will be included: a light-weight molded foam base of Little Round Top, paints, grass, saplings, groundwork, tools and a box lunch. This workshop is limited to 12 participants. Participants must be registered for the Full Weekend Symposium. If you are flying into Gettysburg we will gladly arrange to ship your completed Diorama to your home. Workshop fee is an additional $175 plus shipping if needed.
