Well the 2017 collectors club figure finally arrived !!!

An early Christmas present or a late one - I am not sure !!!

With there being no AZW figure (because we were spoilt at the London Collectors Club Event with a AZW figure, and have been for past 2 years) I opted for the Saxon Warlord.

I have to say I think it is a very good figure. The detailing, paint and pose are very good and Ken (and team) are certainly improving the quality of their figures.

Hi Gary.

Great news indeed!...hopefully get mine tomorrow.

Jeff

Mine arrived on Saturday. I like the detail such as the pair of boots strapped to the knapsack.
Nassau 3.jpg
He goes well with the Nassau figures issued ten years ago. Now I just want the others to appear!

I chose the Nassau Grenadier too and hope that he arrives soon. Nice looking figure! Next year looks promising for Napoleonic collectors with a French bugler and an American infantryman.

Got mine today , got to say the painting especially the face is a big improvement .
Id like to see Britains now move the Napoleonic range back into the spotlight , for the past few years it feels like its been on the back burner .
Id really like to see some diorama aimed pieces gun teams , supply wagons ,ambulance and more mounted troops especially officers , also a new gun crew for the british artillery realised a couple of years ago the nco and officer were fine the actual gun crew had no movement and looked like there on parade.

Now just waiting for my Brunswick sapper ordered 12 months ago.

Nice figure , but do not get the candy striped spears, spears were plain, not decoarative, John Jenkins did the same with the celts sheath, chequered bright colours, they were plain

If you like the figures but not the decoration then you could always paint over the piece that you don't like.

As to the decoration, I don't think you can categorically state that all Spears would be without decoration or were sword sheaths.
I would think the opposite myself. These objects were prized possessions, something that their owners took pride in and would decorate. Though whether it would be designs of their own or tribal or to honour the gods they worshipped, I couldn't say. But decorate them they surely would have.
There may not be many or any existent examples of this decoration on weapons, but from other surviving items then an insight into the culture of these ancient peoples can be started to be understood and representative art of these types used in the decoration of TS. WB and JJD etc would be I'm sure basing their patterns on the type of decoration with of course some artistic licence used but basically correct whether it be something from Iron Age Gaul or Viking era Scandinavia.
If you have the chance to go to the British Museum, or one of the other such museums around the world that do have examples of decoration on ancient sword sheaths, of Roman ones there are many examples.

Ken and the Britains team are usually quite thorough in their research.

From Wikipedia :-

Such spearheads were sometimes decorated, with bronze and silver inlay placed on the blade and socket; in such instances, a simple ring-and-dot motif was most common.[20] Occasionally, the ferrule was decorated to match the spearhead.[16] It is possible that the shafts were also decorated, perhaps by being painted. Evidence for decorated shafts has been found in Danish contexts.[21]

I received mine yesterday. This year I decided to take more than the single figure. So along with the Nassau Grenadier, I also took the Saxon Warlord and the NY 146th Zouave. All of these figures are beautifully sculpted and painted. The wait was worth it. I'm renewing in January and will probably take more than one figure again. But I want to see the painting scheme on some of the unpainted sculpts first. Well Done Ken - thank you.

Mine finally turned up this morning, better late than never as they say! {sm2}

I opted for the War Along the Nile 42nd Black Watch figure and also purchased a Nassau Grenadier, nice figures and pleased with them.

Hopefully next years figures will be on time.

Would love to see some pictures of the 146th New York Zouave.

Thanks so much, Joe! I never knew they posted these on their website.

My pleasure. I don't know if you're a member, but you might want to consider it. Besides the club figure, they put out a quarterly journal call the "Standard", which besides showcasing the figures, gives historical information about the battles and regiments involved that relate to the figures. I believe that Britains has vastly improved their sculpting/painting over the years, but are reasonably priced so I'm pleased with my purchases.

I received my war lord today. Very nice figure, perhaps the best I've seen from Britains. The detail on the helmet is really amazing.

I received mine yesterday (146th Zouave) but I can not post pictures to save my life. Needless to say, it's gorgeous.

I hope mine shows up soon seems like the mail always takes forever here in West Texas 🙄

Dave
