I have had my 12st Century king tiger and panther models on display on my book shelf for several years. The gun barrels are now drooping. Any suggestions on how to straighten them out again? I had thought about a hair dryer. Any experience?

thanks

...I had thought about a hair dryer...

That might work. If they're hollow, you could warm them and insert a piece of brass rod to keep them straight as they cool. You might even leave it in, to keep the barrel from drooping again.

Prost!

Some hobby shops carry metal (turned brass, steel) tank gun barrels. These are 1/35 scale. you can also go to accurate armor website. They also carry tank tracks nd other accessories. Not much of a difference between 1/35 & 1/32 as the scale accuracy of most manufaturers is inconsistent sometimes. Go to a local hobby shop and bring your turret and compare measurement side by side.

I had thought of that as I posted this question. But I need it to remain straight for longer than 4 hours and that would be a trip to the emergency room........right? according to the side effects.

{sm4} That is what they say on TV, so it must be true...................................

My tip would be to stop the problem happening before assembly. I too like making up plastic models - especially of tanks - at a fraction of the cost of metal ones. However, main gun barrels in plastic are especially prone to sag over time - so........to prevent this from happening, I usually insert and epoxy glue, a metal rod into the two halves of the barrel whilst assembling. I used to use old knitting needles ( until La Commandante caught me!), but have now sourced brass rod from a UK model shop - and now use that instead.

Brad's cure looks to be a similar method - which will mean dis-assembly of your existing model. Take care - as they can become brittle.

Long-term cure - think ahead - and stop it happening for the future when building? johnnybach

You could try putting the barrel into hot water...ie.. like .when you soften a hose....that may work....it does on some plastic's...not all......cheers TomB

Brass tubing is a better option than rod stock and will not overload the elevation mechanism. Plus the barrel remains realisticly hollow. I have used Brass tubing in tha barrels of 1/16 models to fire .22 steel balls with compressed gas for radio controlled Panzer battles.

Now this is series fire power from your RC 1/16 tanks ( I have 3 of them). The steel balls can do some good damage ^&grin .
