Some might be interested in this one coming next year.

Summary
After its victory over Leonidas' 300, the Persian Army under the command of Xerxes marches south towards the major Greek city-states. The Democratic city of Athens, first on the path of Xerxes' army, bases its strength on its fleet, led by admiral Themistocles. Themistocles is forced to an unwilling alliance with the traditional rival of Athens, oligarchic Sparta whose might lies with its superior infantry troops. But Xerxes still reigns supreme in numbers over sea and land. Main battle on the sea so I suppose will be Marathon.

Main star Eva Green (Casino Royale) as Persian General.

Aussie actors get good billing with :

Sullivan Stapleton - plays Greek leader Themistocles. Some may recognise him from TV series Strike back but was also in Gangster Squad (killed by swimming pool) and Animal Kingdom and a few Aussie series.

David Wenham - in original 300 movie as the survivor of the 300. Faramir in Lord of the Rings etc.

Callan Mulvey - was in Seal Team 6 in Zero Dark Thirty (killed Bin Ladin) but well known in Oz for TV shows Rush, Bikie Wars and Underbelly.

The naval battle in the film will feature the Battle of Artemisium, an naval engagement concurrent with the battle at Thermopylae fought between an alliance of Greek city-states and the Persian Empire in September 480 BC, in the straits between the mainland and the northern tip of the island of Euboea. The film will probably also focus, in part, on the Battle of Salamis. It is not clear the extent to which the Battle of Marathon will also be covered.

I don't see why the new film would involve the Battle of Marathon at all considering the time frame picking up after Thermopylae. Marathon took place in 490bc, ten years prior to Xerxe's invasion of Greece and Thermopylae in 480bc. I would think Salamis (480bc) and possibly Plataea (479bc) would be givens, but why backtrack to Marathon? -- Al

Oops ! Was actually thinking Salamis as naval battle but obviously a "typo" when Marathoin came out of my
fingers.

After all, its all Greek to me.
