This article is a bit old being from January this year but there is a start up company in NYC working on this.

It's coming folks, it's on the way! Can you imagine: with the right CAD like software, printer and material, you can take a photograph from a source and literally print a scale replica! This could actually solve many of the scale issues discussed on this forum :tongue:

Pretty insane and at a pretty low price point. I am going to post a link on Chowhound which is a foodie board. Good find
 
well, food is very malleable. working with hardening resins or even metals, I can't imagine how much that would cost. but designers are currently using this exact system for modeling in the car industry among others.

so many industrial machines have been reduced in size and purposed for consumer goods so who knows... could be just 5-10 years away till we have one sitting in our work spaces. Amazing and so very exciting.
