I'm interested in 40 - 42 mm figures traditional toy soldier style similar to (I believe) Britains 'B' type castings. Can any of our glossy experts offer advice please, such as availability, manufactuers ...existance of any ranges?

My thanks in advance

The only ones that I know of are Prince August 40mm Moulds, and they you have to cast and paint the figures yourself. http://www.princeaugust.ie/

They are bascially 18th century figures, and semi flat, so maybe not what you want.

here are some of may painted figures:

Clare Regiment (Irish Wild Geese) 1750s

and from Meisterzin Moulds

Painted gloss you have what you want.... maybe?

I'll second John's suggestion of Prins August; I have their 40mm range of molds, too.

Another suggestion is Peipp of Leipzig. Helmut Peipp has a catalog of 45mm figures, focusing primarily on German subjects, though, but ranging over periods from the Thirty Years' War to the German colonial period. You can see his figures at Berliner Zinnfiguren, www.zinnfigur.com. They have an English version of their site, in case you don't speak German. Just go to that site, choose English, and on the home page, choose Round figures, and you'll get BZ's list of manufacturers.

The Peipp figures are sold as castings or as painted figures.

Hope that helps, prost!

Have you considered Sash and Saber 40MM figures?
They come unpainted and some need assembly, but they have an excellent selection: American Revolution, Zulu War, French Indian, Alamo, ACW, and more.
There is also Trident Designs 40MM, and Front Rank 40MM, both of those are only availbale for AWI, and again you have to paint them yourself.

Gentlemen

Many thanks for your sound advice and I'm on the case.

I also came across a company called Drabant who manufacurer highly detailed 40mm figures for the War of Spanish Succession, Wars of Moscow State, Great Northern War and American Civil War.

They look superb but alas I'm really looking for toy soldier style so I've invested in some of the Irregular Miniatures Franco-Prussian and Balkans figures.

Thanks again
