OK, there is a thread about 10 accurate historical films you have seen; how about 5 would like to see made.

I will start with two ....

A film about George Washington during the War of Independence. Why no one has tackled this one is inexplicable to me. Mel, are you listening?

The Scharnhorst; the battle of North Cape from the German standpoint. The last classic naval engagement and battle!

There are already two movies I can think of, portraying General Washington during the war. One is "The Crossing", which though it is based on a novelized depiction of the Battle of Trenton, contains a pretty good performance by Jeff Daniels as Washington. The other is the miniseries, "George Washington", from the 80s, starring Barry Bostwick as the General. While it is dated, and somewhat stilted according to today's tastes, it is based on the biographies of Washington by James Thomas Flexner.

Personally, I'd rather see a film about "Midway", to replace the disappointing 1976 film.

Prost!

Yeah, I have something in mind more of the quality of the movie Patton. But with a stricter emphasis on accuracy.

Anything Napoleonic...the Russian campaign of 1812 "War and Peace".......maybe its time for a new one!
I always thought Ridley Scott should do a 1066 film.

The Siege of Eger or a longer one on the Ottoman invasion of Hungary.

The adventures of Allen, Warner, and the Green Mountain Boys.

Magersfontein.

The First Afghan War.

Another I would like to see is one from the standpoint of both sides about the battle on Monte Casino.

There is a German title; Die Gruenen Teufel von Monte Cassino. Pretty good but limited in scope and only available in German with English subtitles.

One of the fiercest battles in the European theatre during WW2 with the German paras making up the majority of the defenders and a mix of allies including New Zealand and Polish forces on the attack.

And last one I can think of is the Boer War 1899-1902.

The only two I know of regarding this war is "Breaker Morant" from 1980, starring Edward Woodward, and 1972's "Young Winston", starring Simon Ward. This last film is a biographical film and the Boer War is one of the sequences. -- Al

Yeah I would like to see a classic epic from the start to finish including some of the major battles like the one at Colenso.

I like to see a good Civil war movie made.Haven't had none since Gettysburg and Glory. Also another one would be a French & Indian War one.Love Last of the Mohicans (my favorite movie) but it was made 23 years ago (hard to believe).

Considering it's importance, you would think someone would have attempted a film on the Quebec campaign/battle. It's got all the elements of interest; crucial set-piece battle, great personalities, militia, Indians, artillery, naval aspects. Hmm, maybe the very complexity kills the idea? -- Al

I'd like to see a film about the Battles of Quatre Bras and Ligny as I feel these are often overlooked with Waterloo!
