It's close to 1860s. A repaint and a few details and this will make a nice backdrop for 54mm figures.

It's Bachman "BIG" Hauler.

Nutz!

Before I wreak this boxcar, I found that Bachmann makes this one one that is closer to 1860s and unmarked.

I've never seen this before. 54mm? Fantastic. Previously all we had was G scale, too big, 1/25 and Lionel too small, 1/43. I attend model train shows regularly and have not seen this! Where is it sold?

ketelone and blaster,

I have been "told" that G-scale is very close to 54mm. G scale figures are close to 54mm size but are more of the TSSD version of 54mm. Many G-scale figures I have seen are more "cartoony" looking so they look larger. (OK with me) I'm going for the plain boxcar sold here.

look for " B95370 20' BOXCAR PTD.UNLET.OXIDE RED"

BUT! Before you run out and spend $41.00 each for these, let me see how they look with my figures. I'll post some photos when I get the B95370 model.

This is a hogwarts express battery powered Harry potter train lol. Can you tell?

Nice! Stalinism is pretty gaudy with all the red and flags!

It would be expensive but a 54mm scale CW era 4-4-0 would be great for all the CW buffs. I've seen the WWII Third Reich train some body makes.

Scott mate,
Figarti make these carriages to scale. Apart from the Engine, the other carriages are going to look great repainted in my Middle East/Lawrence of Arabia Dios. If you have seen the movie you will know what I mean.
Cheers Howard

Thanks I just looked at the Figarti site. Great model train but the saddest subject for railroad except cattle cars full of people. The regular cars WOULD look good for WW I and the Lawrence subject.

Hi Scott,

Thanks. I surfed a little and came up with this listing on Wikipedia:

Manufacturers in the U.S. and Canada and their scale productsWrightway Rolling Stock 1:32 and 10mm scale custom built British North American and European passenger stock.[1] [Ontario, Canada]
Northern Fine Scale Stock in 10mm scale British only freight stock in kit form [2]
Accucraft has five scales - Fn3 is 1:20.3, Gauge 1 is 1:32, their ½" scale is 1:24. They also build 1:29 scale North American models in live steam and electric under the AML brand, as well as British live steam and electric models in 1:19th scale [also called 16mm] and Isle of Man live steam and electric models in 1:20.3 scale - the Isle of Man uses three foot gauge track, the same width as the dominant US Colorado narrow gauge.
Aristo-Craft is 1:29, “Classic” series is 1:24
Aster is 1:32, 1:30 for Japanese prototypes and 1:22.5 for European and Japanese narrow gauge.
Bachmann's "Big Haulers" series is to 1:22.5, while their "Spectrum" Series is to 1:20.3 scale
Hartland Locomotive Works products are engineered to fit with 1:24 scale Narrow Gauge equipment and 1:29 Standard Gauge equipment.
LGB is 1:22.5
Mainline America is 1:32
Märklin "MAXI" is 1:32
MTH Rail-King is 1:32
Piko is 1:27-1:29
USA Trains “Ultimate” Series is 1:29, “American” Series is 1:24
LGB and numerous other manufacturers [Train-Li, PIKO, Peco] produce track made of brass which can remain outside in all weathers – a quick wipe and it is ready for use. Track can also be obtained in less expensive aluminium as well as oxidation-resistant, though more expensive, stainless steel.

Looking at photos of 1860s "house cars" and the HO and O scale models available, these Bachmann cars will only be "close" in 54mm scale and off as far as trucks and couplers go.

This gent does scale 0 with 28mm figures.

He "scares" me. His box car hand brakes actually function!

We 54mm guys might have to settle for "close" for right out of the box G scale cars.
I'm thinking of marking my cars USMRR on one side and some Southern line on the other. Orange and Alexandria or Westwern and Atlantic.

To give you an idea of sizes of cars to humans here are two "Tyson" cars with rounded roofs. Peak style roofs also existed
